Appliance salesman, (who has been in the business a long time) "Appliances don't last 10 years anymore. You get seven years now."
Seven years later.
Yup. He was right.
I maintain this is a huge part of the "cost of living" issue. You can't get ahead, because nothing you purchase for your home lasts anymore.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@mikepmoffatt/116024490550494179
Watching with a nervous eye for my sons who will soon be (hopefully) entering the workforce, there's three things that concern me:
a) co-ops and internships opportunities are declining (from what I hear
b) Entry level positions are declining
c) hiring is an AI automated hell process
So the barriers to entry are much higher now. What we forget is that often finding a "good job" is a matter of luck, and that luck stems from relationships built with people.
We are rapidly dissolving those opportunities to build relationships. To become known, and to be thought of.

Thanks. I hate it already. I fight to disable the enforced automation in my digital life already.

Wonderful. If the same shit happens again, we have no legal levers to use.
Yes. The police could have acted. They chose not to.
Yes. The provinces could have acted. They chose not to.
The feds acted. And got slapped down for it.
This is stupidity as legal hair splitting and has real consequences.
This decision is a big "Go Fuck Yourself" to the victims of the protests.

And you're being sold for free.
We used to think that buying was a one-way transaction. You give money, get a product back.
It's now a two-way transaction. And it never occurs to us that we sold something for free back to the seller until its too late.

"The changes are part of a frustrating trend among smart home products to change the user experience in unwanted ways after people have already made their purchases."

You own nothing people. You're only renting. Additionally, when you "buy" something, you are a product, that is now part of the transaction.

I can be really weird about things.
For example, I want both BlueSky and Mastodon to succeed.

Well done. Keeping cardinal flower alive in a typical yard is a very difficult task.

Oh yeah, it's their foul tasting defense mechanism. Supposed to make predators spit them back out.
My dad told me that at a party a long time ago one hopped into his mouth while he was laughing.
He confirms the taste is awful.

Brings back memories of catching them as a kid, and having them pee all over my hands.
For their size, they hold a lot of liquid. 😂
