I initially thought you were pointing out that subtractive should look a little bit washed out due to being subtractive, and I was midway through writing a reply about viewing a simulacra of a subtractive model shown on a display which is additive before @npub1pg2…pkyl's reply clued me in. Ha ha. Thanks for the catch.

Originally Bungie, then it went to 343 Industries, then 343i rebranded to Halo Studios recently. The breaking news right now is that Activision has been handed the keys to the franchise.

2026-09-22 14:18:56 UTC

Unless Halo under Activision reviews extraordinarily well and is free of predatory monetisation strategies, I probably won't play any future games in the series.
Despite my love for the games, this is likely the killing blow for any excitement I had for future entries. Dreadful.

I've had quite a number of people tell me to stop bringing up 'politics' in my writing. For example, when I've decried Elon Musk and DHH when mentioning X (Twitter) and Omarchy, respectively.
Plainly, no. I will continue to mention injustices and wrongs. Tech is political – especially now.
The only people that are helped by staying quiet about bigotry, racism, fascism, xenophobia, etc, are the bigots, racists, fascists, and xenophobes.
I'll call it out where I see it, and I urge everyone else to do the same.

I'm not sure I understand what point you're making. ISPs and email services certainly do not use allow lists, and it would be terrible if they did.
As a service getting blocked, an allow list wouldn't stop a block and would also absolutely kill any hope of large-scale growth.

2026-08-24 05:33:13 UTC

Each time we see a major influx of users at Stoat, blocks come with it. An influx can see hundreds of thousands of users signing up on the platform over just a few days, so I can understand it looks suspicious. That's a huge sudden increase in emails going out and a huge increase in traffic to the site. It probably trips some heuristics somewhere which generally do a good job to remove unscrupulous actors. However, sometimes, they get things wrong.
Ideally, if you get incorrectly blocked, you contact the blocker and they remove the block for you. If you're lucky you get to go through several levels of support until you finally get to the people who can get you unblocked, then they give you a collection of forms and systems and processes to go through. If you're unlucky, there are no means of escalation, and you're simply out of luck -- there are no means of appeal. If you do manage to get unblocked, then it'll only be for a little while, because eventually they'll do it again and you'll have to do the process over. It is a futile effort.
The most common and aggressive blockers are internet service providers, email providers, email spam lists, and web filtering services provided by anti-malware companies. Companies that maintain filters for profit seem to keep their lists to themselves, so they're not too much of an issue. ISPs and email providers and spam listers, however, do share their lists around. Once on one block list, you propagate to them all. Then you have to try to remove yourself from them all in quick succession, because the propagation only works one way. Blocks tend to propagate; unblocks do not. If there are blocks still remaining, then they'll return, because getting a block removed does not add you to an allow list and merely removes you from the explicitly blocked list.
It is just a sad state of affairs. It really hurts little independent operations who can't do anything about it. It especially hurts as it comes during periods of growth, where the team is preoccupied and users are forming first impressions. Established operations are obviously far less affected, and if anything does go awry, they have greater sway and lines of contact for resolution. The web is not as open as one would hope, especially when you can be arbitrarily blocked without recourse.

One of the most horrific codebases I've ever seen is one in which all the styling was done using Tailwind's `@apply`. No utility classes in markup, just CSS files full of selectors and `@apply`. They had inexplicably reinvented CSS in Tailwind, and it struck fear into my very heart.

Regarding the very early Stampy's Lovely World episodes, he occasionally says 'bloody' in the very early ones. YouTube Kids doesn't have any of these included obviously, but if they're watching on standard YouTube then you might want to skip straight through to episode 100 by which point everything is very much polished and he is very aware of his audience.

I am a child of the Minecraft era, and thus hopefully well equipped to answer this.
The version of Minecraft available on Android is referred to as the 'Bedrock' edition. Most YouTubers play on the original version of Minecraft which is only available on PC and is called the 'Java Edition'. Both codebases are developed and maintain relative parity while getting the same updates. Some specific things might not work, and far less mods are available for the bedrock version, but they're largely the same.
When I was young, Stampy was a go-to of mine. His [Stampy's Lovely World](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEZiAg2bYC7ngh-_Z_ruvzSfn1KPQRL5V) series is scripted, kid friendly, respectable, and long-running. He also created an educational children's series titled [Wonder Quest](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_Quest). You *might* find his voice and laughter a tad grating.
More recent active creators I'm familiar with include [Grian](https://www.youtube.com/@Grian) and [Mumbo Jumbo](https://www.youtube.com/@ThatMumboJumbo). Both are active and members of a large community Minecraft multiplayer sever titled 'Hermitcraft'. Hermitcraft Season 11 is about to start very soon (Nov 8th). The seasons are all independent of one another, and while there are callbacks to older ones, one needn't have watched them for a full experience.
There are a wide assortment of members of the Hermitcraft server. Some are targeted towards younger viewers, and some are more targeted towards mature viewers (though aren't adult in nature). Watching some of the more mature YouTubers creating content on the server could give you a common ground with your kids if you're so inclined.
Grian is rather mischievous and focuses much more on building, and Mumbo Jumbo is much more into redstone, which is the technical/engineering part of Minecraft. Both are family friendly and have large backlogs.
Happy to answer further questions and provide more recommendations if needed.

[*AI is Stifling Tech Adoption*](https://vale.rocks/posts/ai-is-stifling-tech-adoption) has seen response beyond anything I've ever written before and has prompted some really interesting discussion.
In particular, I've enjoyed @npub15z3…0xrp 's take in his article on That HTML Blog.

I just published a blog post about how AI models are influencing the adoption of new technology and stagnating change.
Go have a squizz.

I manually mirror each and every one. I wish I had a slick little syndication step, though, as I also manually mirror my posts to my site.
Part of why I haven't automated things (beyond it being difficult) is because sometimes I change things to better fit the platform. Notably, I'll cut things off or shorten phrasing on Bluesky and be more verbose with fancier markup on my site.
I'd like people to be able to hang out where they want to, with the best experience they can have. My only worry is that I might be annoying to people following on multiple platforms, or the people I'm replying to.

Nice Rolodex! Lots of great sites to look through there. I can see myself circling back to this page.
Looks like you're aware of the slight shortcomings, but I'll mention that I reckon' kinetic scroll would be a lot of fun.

Radicool. I'll have to give 'em a look. You're a bit of an inspiration for mine, given your coining of 'slashpages'.

Still up in Australia. Seems like Google just doesn't care.
Quite a questionable set of permissions it requests as well.

@npub1sf7…gl68 @npub1t0w…zgs2 Is this CodePen app legit? The listing feels off and I don't see it mentioned on the site.
