BIP-110 supporters are the Don Quixote and Sancho Panzas of Bitcoin.
Use this opportunity to reflect on your strongly held beliefs, characterizations and bold predictions and refine your bitcoin world view.
This sort of feedback is invaluable. Ignore it and repeat the same mistakes or heed it, learn and grow. Ego is not your friend in this moment.
Consider yourselves lucky that it failed so badly it couldn't steal your coins. You were saved from yourselves this time. There are many in Bitcoin's relatively short history who made similar mistakes and paid dearly for it.

Low "consensus" threshold proposals are attacks. It's as simple as that. If you don't understand, I don't have time to convince you.

How'd your prediction age?
Bip-110 failed spectacularly. I'm sorry for your psychological loss. You should be thankful the minority fork was way too short to even garner the capacity to facilitate separating you from your bitcoin, thereby also leading to a financial loss.
Bitcoin has proven it can thwart yet another obvious attack despite your opinion and confidence to the contrary. The low "consensus" threshold turned out to be a really bad idea. Imagine that.
Reflect and correct, then move on wiser for it. Or ignore the valuable feedback, rationalize for the sake of your ego then double down and join the ranks of BCH, BSV and hapless nocoiners like the r/Buttcoin hoardes. The choice is yours. Bitcoin doesn't care.
Good luck!

55% is self evidently not consensus and is unprecedented.
There has always been and will always be spam on bitcoin and nothing that's being proposed by this divisive bip will prevent it. What it would do, if successful, which it won't be, is set a precedent for hasty, contentious forks that introduce new rules and limits with a low threshold that's sure to create a minority fork. This is a great way for low information "bitcoiners" to lose their value on, just like every other minority fork in bitcoin's history. The lower threshold only ensures it will turn out worse than the others. Watch your fork pump and then dump to be worth a tiny % of the value (usage, exchange rate, users, hashrate, etc.) just like BCH and BSV, as holders dump their minority bonus shitcoin dividend and swap them for bitcoin.
Also, stop "arguing" like a little girl. Making cute mean names for people you oppose and throwing unsubstantiated claims around is not an argument. Your not winning anyone of value over with that tactic, only emotional tribal morons.
Learn history or repeat it. Your choice.

You're trying to make a point relative to a specific highly technical conversation involving a breakthrough distributed consensus protocol with very complex design, that is massively disruptive (thereby having many enemies) and has a very complex attack surface by conjuring some sort of metaphor to everyday "rules"?
You're going to have to do better to consider yourself an your opinions to be informed and valuable.

Exactly. It's like just the woke defending big pharma jabs and forced masking. I'd argue that more heart and less brains is not something to be envied at any level. For this highly technicsl code and game theory there is no place for emotion.
For me the 55% "consensus" threshold, absolutely divisive vilificarion of dedicated cypherpunks and flippantly and impatiently rushing into a fork is an attack. Some are innocently getting swept up in it because they are nervous new holders and think they are smarter than they really are, and some are very likely bad actors that want to weaken bitcoin - state actors, "competing" Shitcoiners and butthurt /r/buttcoiners.
They can't argue the merits so they focus on slandering long dedicated developers.
And none seem to want to confirm they will be selling all of their bitcoin to buy their future shitcoin to show their conviction.
Low information high time preference people always have to learn the hard way. See BSV and BCH.

It sets a dangerous precedent for random governance and disabling/limiting privacy features, limiting bitcoin based smart contracts and future impulsive chain splits/forks. All in an attempt to limit spam that will still be possible and has been possible for ages via many different mechanisms.
If you still don't get it, justify the 55% "consensus" threshold.
This smells a lot more like a shitcoiner motivated attack than a purist "bitcoin is solely money" principled stand. Bitcoin Script was there from the very beginning and taproot has been in the works for ages.
You want a better bitcoin than what is being maintained by core for over a decade? Chose from one of the 50 million shitcoins or roll your own. Reducing the "consensus" threshold proves this is a contentious attack against real consensus by definition and is against the well established bitcoin ethos.
Retards are here to "fix" bitcoin. Enjoy your hastily implemented minority fork and uniting with your malcontent comrades in the BCH and BSV crowds.

This seems like a great idea and a perfect fit for bitcoin. It reminds me of early demonstrations of remote payments by sharing a bitcoin "invoice" qr code with a willing payer via livestream or just text. I think Roger Ver demoed that use case back in the early days.
Since this 33me to involve payment via credit or debit card, I'm curious about how charge-backs are dealt with.
I think in-person transactions generally are "insured" so to speak by the payer being present and maybe even on camera. It seems like the remote payer could potentially game a system like this because they are anonymous, off camera, and could just accept the bitcoin and then do a charge-back at some point afterwards.
Maybe the protection is that their credit/debit card company would flag this sort of activity if it happened too frequently?

1. Sending clear feedback
2. Not using or supporting people/wallets/services who use this invalid, confusing and dangerous terminology
3. Spreading awareness of the problems with the community
This is well within the power of even an individual to help remedy.
I'll dare to say that packaging this with the otherwise very positive (and overdue) enablement of square's customer base to accept bitcoin, would be seen as an attack by many OG bitcoiners. To me, it's like a form of poison pill.

Back then big blockers similarly vilified and slandered the core developers and wound up bagholding "the real bitcoin" worth 1/100th of the *real* bitcoin.
The safest approach is not to amp up the division and to calmly address differences of opinion about how to address spam in all its forms.

You really need to touch grass. There are no enemies in this. Just differences of opinion about very complicated technical issues, governance questions and game theoretical scenarios.
Not talking is not going to take us anywhere. It's literally the worst possible approach.
More talking and hashing through and reconciling these complex issues is the only productive path forward.
Also, if history is any precedent, during the block size wars similarly irrational vilificiation led those perpetrating it and hopping aboard that narrative to sell their bitcoin and becoming BCH and BSV bagholders. Think it through.
We all have an interest in bitcoin's success. Vilifying and slandering long time contributors is not the right way to go about this. Calm and rational discussion is required.

It's hard to manage changes, updates, security patches etc. on a 24/7 decentralized monetary network. Litecoin was used during the block size wars to help test LN and it's required changes. Your point is not wrong, but it's no trivial task.
My advice is to try to stay calm and not assume long time contributors to bitcoin are bad actors. Don't trust, verify - yes, but that doesn't mean to assume any change is a conspiracy.
We can run any node software we want and shouldn't be assumed to be bad actors. Choice is good and multiple implementations is positive. I think we just need to stop short of confidently assigning negative motivations to people who have been doing amazing work for years.
Open and respectful discussion between people who understand all these dynamics is what's needed. Not emotional libelous flame wars.

2025-10-12 17:32:25 UTC

A 26 TB disk costs $550 USD. Disk space is the least of the concerns. Do more research into the topic. It has more to do with game theory, incentives amd the ability to control the data on your node.
Imo both sides have valid perspectives but somehow this has devolved into flame wars rather than what should be a respectful dialog. Novices jumping down the throats of long time devs with low resolution takes and accusations is most definitely not helping.

You just instantly devolved a technical discussion into comments on personal appearance. Probably time to take a break and ensure your opinion is more than an emotional response and is actually based in reality.
If you bring insults instead of arguments you are not helping.

How exactly would that be done ("pushing the changes into 29")? If you can't explain how or have not done the research on whether that's even possible, now would be a good time to reflect on the possibility you might be propagandized and are reacting emotionally to a difference of opinion and approach to very complex technical matters.
You owe to yourself and your followers to at least do some basic research before spreading more hysteria. We need more rational voices, not inflamation and vilificiation.

Apparently, and unfortunately, it looks like many of your nostr followers have gone bitcoin woke, mustering mostly emotional reactions and reciting spoon-fed narratives. Im seeing this everywhere, unfortunately.
I'd love to see a thoughtful discussion between you and Samson about the topic. Might help bridge the divide.
Or maybe Samson and Greg since they have had a working relationship dating back ages (a decade iirc).
This whole thing reminds me a bit of the block size wars. Many getting caught up in emotional and irrational vilification and even hysteria instead of thoughtful and respectful discussion over differences of opinion on complex technical matters including game theory, which is likely too complex for most (including me) to wrap their heads around.
There also seems to be a fair amount of confusion over default settings vs. removed options. I'd think at the least such a discussion could clear some of that up.
My 2c fwiw.

Just a 4x to $.5 million!
Bitcoin did a 16x from Jan 1, 2017 before the end of that year. HODL!
Blowing away all our collective expectations. What a time line!

That's not the whole story. As I understand it, you will still relay spam, just in a way that is more costly to node runners since it stays in the UTXO set. Imo both sides have reasonable technical and governance perspectives but some "in the community" are turning this into a political battle, slandering the other side, as you just did. Ironically, the people trying to frame this as "core is evil/stupid/corrupt/shitcoiners" may be more likely to be shitcoiners trying to fracture the community of the top dog. It's simply a philisophical difference of opinion on how to deal with spam.
Just my opinion.

Just curious. Is Saylor doing enough to accellerate the adoption of Bitcoin yet?
How's BlueSky going?
Am I a bit bitter? Yes. My Twitter account was deactivated under Jack's management shortly after he kicked the President of the United States off his platform.

$100k sell wall defeated.
Who would try to sell at $100k anyway? If you're going to sell you can't sell at $99k?
HFSP noodle hands. 😁

I was just wondering when you'd adapt one of your LN automations to Nostr, for example to blow bubbles when you received a new DM. Does this library facilitate that?

It's not often in life you'll see a humble genius like @nprofile…4x38 investing his time and effort, and sacrificing time away from his family just sitting waiting for anyone to stroll up and be enlightened. This man is a treasure to bitcoin and should have his own conference. He's a builder factory, facilitating future innovators. There has to be a way we can flip the script from pumping shitcoins, paid services and shallow talking heads to actually educating and enabling new users and use cases thereby seeding innovation and broadening our base. Ben has been rather quietly but substantially helping bitcoin and lightning via his many lightning enablement projects, including the amazing/powerful LNbits, and had a hand in the creation of nostr as well. I would love to support, volunteer and attend a conference where current builders, including the many who've been motivated, spawned and supported by Ben could meet, collaborate, share and pay forward his investment to future generations.

Says the guy who was overseeing the tweep state. Oh man, where to start... While you where lying to the public and covering up state sponsored censorship and corruption, Michael was spreading awareness and empowering the masses with a censorship resistant technology that offers individuals new tools for wresting their freedoms and sanity back from out of control governments and central bankers. The irony. It might be time to step down from your ivory tower and acknowledge the ranks of people that have been working towards restoring freedom while you were doing the bidding of tyrants.
