It's wider than just Thiel. Our own Alan Gibbs was a driving force in creating the Atlas Network, and his daughter (former manager of the Headless Chickens, Straitjacket Fits and 95bFM) ran the joint for a while. They collect money from the very rich and distribute it to hundreds of grubby little front organisations like the FSU, the TPU, the ACT Party etc.
In the old days we would call this the CIA, this is the current privatised model.
I'm now very suspicious of 95bFM alumni.

A nearby receiver should be able to tune to the local oscillator 455kHz above the tuned frequency on the device under test, which should therefore be tuned to somewhere low on the band.
The mixed product at 455kHz will be very hard to find remotely.

The tuned circuit is around pins 1, 2, and 3 of L252 and the attached capacitors.
Naturally the caps should all be open circuit.
The tap on the coil gives the phase shifted feedback signal to make the oscillator work, together with the other winding, and feeds the oscillator output into the front end.
As usual look for 0.6V between base and emitter.

Asbestos was everywhere when I was growing up. All the houses were clad with the stuff, the drinking water main pipes had it. Every kitchen had asbestos in it. Electrical cables, especially on heaters, had asbestos insulation. The school chemistry lab was full of it. The coal furnace which heated the school was swathed in the stuff. The textured ceilings rained it down. Car brake pads and clutches still have it.

I see spalling and vertical cracking in horizontal beams from vertical acceleration which is usually associated with P wave shaking, as in this case, being on top of the rupture and everything
Usual damage is criss-cross cracking between vertices from horizontal movement associated with S wave motion.

Uranium as the metal has a density of 19.1 grans per cubic centimetre. As the oxide it is about half that.
This translates to a cube about 10cm on a side for the metal or an block 10x10x20cm for the oxide.
Adding 18.2cm of lead shielding around a 10cm cube gives a block 46.4cm on a side, about 0.1 cubic metres, which would be more or less transportable except that it would weigh about 1.1 tonnes.

Tropical Cyclone Alfred appears to have significantly devolved and continued moving southeat. I'm guessing it will cause more trouble for New Zealand than for Australia's east coast.
Thank you very much.
[pretty odd that the BoM site is working only on http, for me anyway]

There's some stuff about it on-line.
GEC product used in test gear for aircraft RADAR and likely other things.
I can see one for sale at about $NZ2750 but, I mean, who is that mad?

How about adding a waveguide bend and aiming it at the sun?
