Having a theme can push.... Not always push ppl away. Not by intent. Not always. But offer a place in the fedi specific to an interest. Then a user can follow other interests away from the main one on their Home TL. Where they can dip into other communities.
But that mostly would be small servers. And/or non-general servers.

From what I read, it seems you are saying communities are inherently insular. is that the case?
Fedi servers can have a theme to center around a subject. But I dont think that limits what a post in that instance can be about. Unlike groups in FB, posts can be off topic. And off topic posts can hashtag into other subjects. Making it included in a diff community on the Fedi.
Also, the Fedi is a community - of communities. At least that is how I see it can be.

I'm def open to an algo on the fedi. But I dont like how some of these projects kinda poo poo a chornological TL. Some seem to intend to replace it. I get some people dont like it. Not everyone has to. But also, I get alot out of my chrono TL.
I would like a -separate- feed that has an algo I control. So I can choose between, as my fancy feels. But not replace. It's not a zero sum game (tho, I'm not the one designing it.)

My heart goes out to the are-now, or would-be, storyboard artists that might have worked with him.
I dont know about softening. But the actors and writers of hollywood have some saftey from LLMs. Because of the deal their unions were able to make. Animators did not get such luck. And aparently, not storyboard artists.
I also hear Martin using the LLM industry lingo of "efficiency". Which when I hear it sounds like "one less human I have to deal with."

So Everand's changes are hitting me. It went from everything is avail, to a 2 tier system. You have to look up a book to find out which tier it is on. And you cannot buy an unlock/credit. You either get 1 or 3. And that is what you get for the month. And this feels really enshitified. There is an unlimited list, but it is shrodinger's cat until you look it up,
" :blobaww: Oh I want this book! Is it unlimited? 😢 oh no its not."
Looking at Barnes&Nobel as an alternative.

Scott's review of Bird of a Thousand Stories - BookWyrm
This was just a bit better than the 1st book.
Mar' is still living with Maloran. And doing work with the Fells. One one trip to help a creature, her relationship with the family business becomes more fraught. And she gets a chance to meet more of her family. Maloran makes an interesting new friend. And she learns of a bird that could ...

Scott's review of 101 Ways to Go Zero Waste - BookWyrm
I got alot out of this book. It is very approachable. Not to overwhelming. And not judgy like some environmentalism can be.
Something important to cover is that the book acknowledges that it's impossible to be totally 0 waste. 0 waste is the -goal- the movement sets for itself. But one must know full well is unattainable. But the effort is the most important. This isnt...

Scott's review of Calling In - BookWyrm
This book is advocating, and hoping to start a movement of activism, based less in call-outs, and more in call-in. Bascially, less shunning and insulting of an opposing believe, political or otherwise. And more leaving room to a discussion. Sometimes based less in opposition, and rather finding areas of similarity. This of course is for people open to such...

Scott's review of All the Ways to Go - BookWyrm
This was a good book. Very much written for kids. But still smart, and well made. If you can read it as your kid self, you can get much out of it. Or just learn where kids are now.
The characters are well done. Even some of the more ancillary ones. It does a good job of presenting annoying characters. Then humanizing them. It doesnt do this by...

Scott's review of Inside Out : A Memoir - BookWyrm
Demi is very honest & generous. For a woman who has been hounded by tabloids, she gives alot of herself here. Even bad behavior on her part. Even moments some might consider embarrassing. And she tells it unflinchingly in the audiobook. I think she tries to explain rather than give excuse. She willingly accepts blame for the things she did.
She also offers the hope...

I live in Louisiana. And I just experienced 9 inches of snow. And I had the day off. And I have gone buck wild making snow ppl. These are the first I have ever made. I am so proud of my dudes.
I cant mention enough how rare snow is in my area. And this much snow is really rare. And most of the times it has snowed in the last 30 years, I couldnt play. But I reeaally got to today. And I had so much fun. I am so glad.

Scott's review of Predator's Gold - BookWyrm
I liked the movie, so I read the book (1) version, and was glad there was more of this interesting world. And this book continues it. Tho maybe a bit unevenly.
This takes place 2 years after the the first book. And for a good while, it seems uninterested in picking up book 1 threads except for Hester and Tom. Who I was glad to see are keeping on with...

#WarOfTheRohirrim is a great #movie. Very true to the visuals of the trilogy. And also very focused on its story.
When a call of the Rohan nobles comes together. A ill fated challenge goes wrong. Which tears a family, troubles a people, and causes the death and suffering of many.
Great fights, fantastic backgrounds, voice acting that is in line w/ the trilogy. The pacing is slow, but pays off in the end. Well told story.

I dont want to shun the ppl on Threads. But I also dont want to play the game of "either you give us a way to you, or you're a bad person for being rude to our users."

2024-12-06 22:15:21 UTC

- reply

I should have worded that better.
I meant would Threads/Meta the company be able to data mine me if a Threads account follows or engadges with my posts.
Of course the company has the resources & motivation to make an apperatus to do that. There is also the question if legally they can do that (not that that nessicarily stops them). There are GDPR considerations. But also, I'm guessing the Threads user has an agreement w/ them, but I dont, and it's my data.

So, does anyone know if a Threads person following &/or engadging with me means they can or will datamine me?
Trying to decide if i want to blanket ban Threads accouts.

#Alien #Romulous is pretty much aces. I didnt have high hopes from the trailer. Might not have seen it if not for a view party. But now, I had a ride. This was something. Scares so good, I was still recovering an hr after. A damn good script. Ties to the wider mythos that doesnt feel cheap. It has flaws, but ~easily~ forgiven by how good everything else is.
