There's a really paradoxical situation here, as unlike the mastodons, atproto is really a perfect technical solution for companies, news agencies, governments, institutions, theaters, galleries - for the _emitters_ of information. A free, shared space to send vibes and messages to!

But at the same time, the _receiving_ part of the story - the emergent community - got weird a few times during the crytical period of growth, and somehow managed to build a wrong name for itself. Which is really a waste. Given that most folks are lurkers anyway typically..
No idea how to fix that!

Logged on Xwixxer for the first time in a year, got sad.
On one hand, lots of old friends, cool folks, posting cool things.
On another 1) ftw are they doing there? 2) everyone sounds a bit instane, 3) the place is half-linkedin at this point, so much posturing 4) most of them tried bsky but left

Finally I immediately reflected that the feeling of not beeing in a bubble, not being an isolated esoteric community, the absence of FOMO on bsky really relies on maybe a dozen of people. @npub1nw4…v6hq , [@emollick.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy](https://bsky.brid.gy/ap/did:plc:flxq4uyjfotciovpw3x3fxnu ) , @npub1hj5…3c79 , a rare [@gergely.pragmaticengineer.com@bsky.brid.gy](https://bsky.brid.gy/ap/did:plc:3n5xhy6vl7smssmwxq5wgqa6 ), a few more.

This last fact hits the most actually. They really tried to move and have their accounts parked here, but aren't posting. I wonder if bsky will ever have another chance. Maybe if major governments move here rather than on mastodon it can still improve something. But unclear.

It's quite noticeable that even those who post here, cross-post there, comment on meaningful news there, and not here, as it's easier. Here cross-posting is mostly local kichen drama, "Helen didn't wash her dishes AGAIN". Which is a kind of activity that is worth than no activity haha. But oh well:)

Beyond them, it's sweet and interesting, but a bit parochial. Granted, this particular parish seems to be at the cutting edge on so many issues, and I'm learning a lot! Cool parish, totally works for me, way better than the overhyped linkedinized page-long posts of X! But still a bit New Zealand :)

What I wanna see:
- Advice on how to develop software, in a team, with humans and AI
- Cool personal projects
- Smart news I won't quite get that would give me a false feeling of belonging to an in-group, just coz the visuals are so pretty
What I don't wanna see:
- dunks
- quotes of bad takes

What I find particularly weird is that this anti-ai sentiment is also so uniquely American! (probably correlating with bsky being US-biased). Living in Germany, I literally don't know a single AI hater irl! Lots of folks are worried, afraid, concerned, skeptical, but zero datacenter contrails etc

Not quoting, but: going to space is good, actually. Progress is good actually, and going to space is NOT a competitor of things like good schools, public healthcare, climate solutions, infrastructure development, clean energy, UBI. In fact, they synergize.
Billionaires are stupid and harmful tho.

Photographic evidence is dead. It is now impossible to tell a real photo from a lie.
Consequence: We will pay more attention to the source of news than to the content. Independent verification by trusted players is our only way.
Corollary: Never post fakes for giggles. Become a trusted source NOW.

I'm optimistic about ai because when your house is on fire while being transported from Kansas to god knows where, you HAVE to stay optimistic. If you despair, you've already surrendered, already lost. Optimism doesn't guarantee civilization survival, but is a prerequisite for it

This!
LLMs are like walls, to bounce a ball against.
Or the sea, to practice your speech to.
Or journaling, where the journal responds (a bit).
Or rubber ducks, to debug.
I prompt them to make them super-concise. I don't need to read pages of text with bullet points. I need to find my own thoughts.

It's interesting how eigenprompt is 98% aesthetic, yet because LLMs say what they think (or rather think what they say!) you can't change aesthetics without changing the character. And it really becomes contrarian! Using zoomer slang gives it zoomer opinions! Like getting angry just coz you cussed
