Best part of using nostr is you can use any app/interface you like. I don’t recall needing to give identity creds using either primal or damus on ios though.

Agree the variance around circumstances is large, but those that can responsibly get close to zero are the exception, not the norm. You’d have to be willing and able to make sudden and significant changes to your lifestyle, which itself would result in a sense of uncertainty.
Saving in bitcoin is meant to help deal with future uncertainty, but that alone won’t be the case until after bitcoinization takes place. Getting on zero during the transition can itself be a source of uncertainty and introduce the very problem we hope sound money helps us avoid in a bitcoinized world.
It doesn’t become prudent to move towards zero fiat until a significant portion of the world’s cash balances are in bitcoin and where it starts to factor into the unit of account for most goods and services in the world.
The path to get there is to be productive, thrifty, and prudent in asset-liability management while growing one’s cash balances in bitcoin. Over time, if bitcoin does what we think it will do, it should move bitcoiners to zero naturally. For instance, OG bitcoiners with large stacks are already effectively on zero even if they hold an epoch’s worth of modest fiat expenses.

thanks agree with gold having divisibility shortcomings. i also wonder if the uncertainty of the s2f / scarcity into the future played a factor. we know now what gold and silver’s historical s2f approximately were… we don’t really know how that changes in the future except tail risk of finding some significant amount on earth or elsewhere in the universe. i have to think the certainty introduced by bitcoin’s supply schedule is part of the story and the rest of the monetization is just the natural emergence of an economic good (menger) where we have to have a human need, a thing that can satisfy that need, knowledge of the thing being able to satisfy the need, and sufficient command of the thing to make it satisfy the need.
as more and more people become aware of and develop command of bitcoin with tools to satisfy their needs for sov, moe, and uoa… i would also expect bitcoin eats into the monetary premium enjoyed by all other goods in each category.
there may be edge cases where we need to account for environments and markets that can’t have stable and sufficiently high bandwidth internet, either because of censorship or poor infra.

2023-03-14 14:14:27 UTC

they’re setting up to print money, but not just yet. the printer will go online after more corrections have occurred and the exits have been blocked.
my guess is another 18-24 months.
this pump may not last if the fed hikes on the 22nd to bring CPI down (by wrecking levered businesses) and delivers a stern message.
with a lifeline extended to banks, and signal to do more to protect their depositors as needed, the only people that would be shaken out with continued hikes are levered folk in the real economy followed by consumer-dependent businesses
once there’s a sufficient reset and the exits have been blocked, the printer can come online
the only sustainable path to hyperbitcoinization remains orange pilling one handshake at a time.
if we lose the big ramps, we may not have the benefit of fiat whales levering long as we did in 2020-2021, and that’s ok.
these are just personal opinions, do with it as you will.

what do you mean by how to run the economy? the economy runs itself because humans naturally economize. we all take action to provide goods and services based on our means and abilities and seek buyers for those goods and services.

2023-03-11 21:15:32 UTC

- reply

it’s the ability to voluntarily provide goods and services to my fellow humans in exchange for other goods or services, preferably money in the form of bitcoin so that i’m not dependent on trusted parties for its safekeeping or the preservation of its purchasing power.
regulations can also be voluntary such that the providers and consumers of a service can agree to be bound by certain principles and enforcement mechanisms, which already happens today albeit not entirely free of the state. see saifedean’s recent pod re: law & order in free markets.

if nothing else, we have tangible examples to teach a whole new generation about the inherent fragility of fractional reserve banking.
i don’t think the lessons of 2008 resonated with younger people who didn’t live through it and most assumed the 10s of 1000s of pages of regulation that followed 08 “fixed” the shortcomings of the system.
they now need to start questioning these assumptions… or they may just go back to netflix and tiktok next week, i don’t know 🤷🏻‍♂️

a banking system cannot be fractionally reserved and sufficiently decentralized at the same time.
when fractional, reserves consolidate to the biggest banks.
with full reserves, banks big and small can all withstand a run.
