@nprofile…awd8 @nprofile…327n I'm specifically on hometown UI, so I'd want a mastodon.social account or similar to test with mainline Masto to be certain what is masto vs hometown. But I wrote up a bunch of hometown issues a while back that likely apply. Maybe I make that mastodon.social account...

@nprofile…awd8 @nprofile…327n Hi Robert, it's me, I'm the one with the gripes. Lots of keyboard focus and color complaints haha. But they tie into the culture because mainline Mastodon devs have seemed pretty hostile to this stuff....so hearing that it's going well for you is really awesome!

alright, officially opening up REQUESTS for #fediLearns ( previously #fediSkillshares )
same deal as the offers: gimme a category, title, description, and of course your handle. You can include possible compensation information if you'd like (monetary, skill trade, barter, etc).
you can submit using the form on the website - https://fedilearns.fyi/submit/ - or just respond to me here.
requests aren't up on the site yet, but they will be soon!
If anyone has thoughts about where they should be displayed - my current thought is that they are a separate page - lmk!

hey fedi, offfer for you all.
this is an elretron penna. it's a wireless bluetooth keyboard that takes 2 AA batteries.
I found that the bluetooth is pretty dodgy, and couldn't get it to reconnect after the first connection. It also probably needs a firmware update (because of the bluetooth issues I wasn't able to)
HOWEVER, y'all are smart folks! So, two offers, in order:
1. If someone thinks they can rehab this device, it's yours for cost of shipping*
2. If no one steps up to fix it, and someone wants the typewriter-style keycaps (one is missing the shiny border but they are otherwise in fine condition. Stanrd plus-shape cherry-style attachment point), they're yours for cost of shipping*
Message me! I will keep this offer open for several days. If I hear from multiple folks, it will be a random draw. (If I hear from no one, offer is just indefinitely open)
*If you're not sure what shipping would be, reach out and I will get you an estimate.

2026-05-04 04:40:21 UTC

hey screen reader users of the fediverse, do you have thoughts on how anchor links/heading permalinks should be handled?
when i say anchor links i mean links to individual headings on a web page, usually there so users can easily get a link to that heading without having to check the HTML for the heading's id element
i'm trying to figure out where to land in terms of not creating too much repetitiveness (fully repeating the heading seems like a lot) vs not making the links too generic (just saying anchor or permalink seems like it would be confusing)
y'all are the experts though, so I look forward to hearing any thoughts

2026-05-01 18:28:37 UTC

hey! do you know things? do you wanna learn things? (i hope the answer to both those things is yes)
the other day, I offered on here that i would be happy to teach folks some basic web and terminal stuff. other people picked up the idea, also saying they'd be happy to teach!
so, because i have too much free time and not enough enrichment in my enclosure, it's a simple website now.
introducing the fedi skillshare classifieds: https://inherentlee.codeberg.page/fedi-skillshares/
want to be involved? send me some real basic info (fedi handle, what you want to share, a category for it) and i'll put it on the site! and of course, share the site, either via this post or your own. I'm using the #fediSkillshares hashtag :)

does anyone work at Steamboat Springs?
my wife has a hat she loves from working there, it's a black flat brim baseball cap with brown brim and a brown steamboat patch, and it has "staff" embroidered on the side.
well, she had a hat. our dog just got to it and now it's pretty damn wrecked.

well hello again, I would still really love to #getFediHired. US, remote work.
all the things I said previously (https://flipping.rocks/@inherentlee/114230874324783924) are still true - I've got 7 years experience at Microsoft in cloud infrastructure (particularly containers and Kubernetes) and devOps; I'm in my zone teaching, communicating, and documenting; and I have a strong focus on accessibility and team culture.
I've also spent the last while, both a bit at Microsoft and then much more deeply since unemployment, doing web development with a focus on web accessibility. Personal websites, blogs, and hobby sites are my jam, whether starting fresh or helping with a redesign, and I'm happy to take on freelance projects. Reach out and we can talk scope, pricing, and design ideas.

@nprofile…7ppx this hits hard, ran into similar yesterday. trying to tell someone that his words/actions aligned with larger patterns of sexism turned into us ~"insulting him, putting words in his mouth, and saying he hated women and queer/ trans people" so.......oof
I don't know really how to handle this, especially when it comes to these big systemic biases, other than the hope that maybe if people learned *early and often* that being told you're being sexist/ racist/ ableist/ homo- or trans-phobic, etc, is not a message of "you, individually, are bad" but instead "societally, there are problems that we all unconsciously learn from, and absorbing those patterns is normal -- but you still need to address when you reproduce them"...... hope that makes sense.
to your "where did you learn it" I'm pretty sure part is having an autistic brain that *extremely* overanalyzes patterns, but a lot might have just been.... listening to marginalized people both like and unlike myself. that's helped me grow a lot over time, and really hammered in these messages.
course now I'm worried I'm off topic and haven't answered what you're looking for, so if that's the case, just lmk 💗

2025-12-01 18:35:13 UTC

what if we made a greeting card - a single card - travel the world
idea: every person is given the next recipient in the chain. when they receive the card, they sign it, put it in a new envelope, and send out again to their next recipient
if it gets too beat up, the current holder picks a new card. when it reaches the end of the chain, the last recipient sends it back to the first, who takes a picture to share with all participants.
and then, if we want to, we scramble the list (drop anyone who wants to be dropped, add anyone who wants to be added) and start again with a new card

hey lazyweb i am going out of my fucking brain on this one
does anyone with a special-er interest in the postal service than i have managed to obtain know of where i can find guidance on the layout of postcards
this years solstice cards are gonna be postcards and i have found SO MUCH CONFLICTING INFORMATION about layout, what sizes are acceptable for postcard postage, etc. There's different guidelines for commercial vs consumer postcards, and places that print postcards for you and let you upload your own design offer limited guidance.
so i'd really like to be more sure before i buy like 250 postcards (most places jump from 100 to 250, ah well, so if you have a list of about 120...)

I have 6 years of experience at Microsoft in cloud infrastructure, focusing on Kubernetes and devOps with additional experience around databases, front end, algorithm design.
I am a skilled technical communicator and used to working across teams and even across companies. I have experience teaching people new to or experienced with technical topics.
Documentation and maintenance are passions of mine, and I want to ensure that not only do shiny new systems get built, but that they are documented, maintained, and can be monitored.
I've done considerable work in LGBTQ+ and accessibility education and love to find the places where these topics shine a light on technology.

thinking about oppositional sexism today and its impact on the idea of "male socialization" regarding transfems
---
first, the primer: oppositional sexism.
traditional sexism: men good women bad
oppositional sexism: men and women are each other's *opposites*. this is understood to be both normal and natural, *and* morally good and correct.
---
let me lay out two thought patterns that come to weird conclusions if you are, perhaps, a transmasc person who hasn't engaged with and started to mentally dismantle oppositional sexism.
ONE. as a young person, I (a transmasc) experienced female socialization. if I understand transfems to be my "mirror," my opposite, then clearly they have experienced male socialization growing up.
and that's often not true, right? in fact, both transmascs and transfems are growing up and absorbing messages that this femaleness or femininity that's about them is Bad And Wrong. even if *we* don't understand our own gender, children around us often pick up on it and respond accordingly. My wife frames it as being socialized as the little fag who should be hit with rocks.
TWO. as a (theoretical) non-passing (passing bad etc not the point here) transmasc, it can be true to say that I am experiencing misogyny from being seen as a woman. If I understand transfems to be my "mirror," then a non-passing transfem is seen as a man.
and that's often not true, right? in fact, non-passing transfems are still often seen as either visibly transfem or as somehow deviating from maleness in some uncountable, ephemeral way, which removes their access to privilege and ease of moving about.
---
tl;dr if you have not unpacked/started working to unpack oppositional sexism, you are susceptible to transmisogynistic stereotypes.

the group that needs to access abortion and other related reproductive health care is PEOPLE WHO CAN GET PREGNANT.
it's not just women, and saying so continues the othering of transmascs and nonbinary people who need to access abortion and other reproductive care.

#newPenDay got a new TWSBI in: an Eco in Indigo Blue Bronze, Medium nib. here it is with my 580 (1.1mm stub nib).
inked with my wife's pick of color, Private Reserve Black Cherry - got it as a freebie at some point.
even she, a non fountain pen user, was impressed by the smoothness of the nib

- no gender at all
- something unrelated to man AND woman
- nonbinary man/nonbinary woman
