"It is the very activity of thinking that is inherently generous. […] It is because thinking opens up the realm of possibilities, in the silence of our minds, free from surveillance and coercion, that it is a dangerous activity. Thinking allows us to (re)define ourselves as subjects, to question our social conditions, and to challenge the legitimacy of power. Thinking is a necessary step to move on to verbalisation and sharing with others in order to create the material conditions for organization and political resistance."

Wear your opponent out:
1. Survive by denying the enemy the choice of time and place.
2. Impose a cost on everything the enemy tries to do.
'Something the "so you think the law means anything now" doomers fail to grasp: the importance of buying time. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, has infinite resources and infinite capacity for managing complexity.

There is a Diaspora Affairs minister in israel. Amichai Chikli has explained his own strategy candidly.
Antisemitism, he told an interviewer, does not much interest the average European or US, whereas fear of “radical Islam” interests them “very, very much”, and Israel therefore needs “to take advantage of that”.
Here is a senior cabinet minister admitting that Islamophobia has become a Trojan Horse for Israel to win over European and US hearts and minds.
It is a clear account yet of what his ministry has become; an office that once existed to protect Jewish communities abroad now works to turn European fear of Muslims into political capital for the Israeli government.
But while his predecessors pretended to care about what would keep Jews safe, Chikli asks what narrative can be weaponised to make an easier impact. The most effective selling point, he has concluded, is no longer Israel but fear of somebody else.

A small minority of well-born men exercised despotic power over their fellow citizens in the name of an aristocratic conception of society, twice around 400 BCE.
After the surrender, the Athenian Ekklesia (assembly) soon divided into three camps:
* supporters of a “patrios politeia” (ancestral constitution),
* preservers of democracy,
* proponents of oligarchy’.
Debate and inaction continued until September 404 BCE, when the Spartans chose to intervene. They asked the Athenians to choose thirty men to manage all the affairs of the polis.
‘The Thirty initially avoided drafting a precise constitution. Instead, they sought to: a) establish a functional interim government; b) eliminate opponents; and c) reform the laws.’

"We force animals to adapt to the constraints of farming modelled on the mass production of manufactured goods, whereas farming should respect the ethological needs of animals. This is a transgression because we grant ourselves an absolute right that we do not have. This violence towards animals is a condemnation of us. Yet our relationship with animals could be an opportunity to think about a way of inhabiting the Earth that makes coexistence with other species possible. This requires new foundations for ethics and politics."

Who was Bernard Charbonneau? 🧶
Bernard Charbonneau was raised in the Bordeaux bourgeoisie. He obtained his agrégation in 1935.
In 1945, he decided not to pursue an academic career and, ‘eager to live in the countryside, he obtained a position at a small teacher training college in the Pyrenean foothills, in Lescar, France, where he remained until his retirement’. (written by Daniel Cérézuelle, in ‘Ecology and Freedom: Bernard Charbonneau: Pioneer of Political Ecology’, Lyon, Parangon/Vs, coll. ‘après-développement’, 2006)
He viewed technical progress as the source of ever-increasing organisation, and therefore greater conformity, hence less freedom. He was a close friend of Jacques Ellul for six decades.
In his own words (in Combat nature no. 106, August 1994): https://lagrandemue.wordpress.com/2019/11/20/bio-graphie/

Depression is when we don’t care for anything. We want to stay under the duvet. The duvet is comfortable. We would like to get out of it but we only have the motivation to stay warm.
Depression can develop into a disinterest for the world. Smiles appear bland, uninteresting. Pleasure and displeasure become indistinguishable, leading to a progressive anaesthesia of emotions.

"The #law is the most powerful engine through which ideologies can become self-replicating engines. John Locke’s theory of property as the endowed right of white men to use and to produce worked like witchcraft—the natural world, which had sustained societies for thousands of years, could suddenly be taken by force, enclosed, and tilled for the sole profit of one man, with trespassers punished. The conversion of land into one person’s permanent property was not permissible under the indigenous populations who had long occupied it, nor was such a thing permissible anywhere in the world except Europe—and even there, only after the enclosure movements of the 1600s."

"The Israel Lobby and U.S. #foreignPolicy" is a book by John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt, published in 2007. In it, they emphasize that the lobby is not a cabal or a conspiracy but simply a powerful interest group, like the National Rifle Association of America or the agrobusiness lobby.
“Since World War Two, the United States has been involved in every nook and cranny of the world, fighting wars here, there, and everywhere. And to do that, you need a very powerful administrative state that can help manage that foreign policy. But in the process, what happens is you get all of these high-level, middle-level, and low-level bureaucrats who become established in positions in the Pentagon, the State Department, and the intelligence community — you name it. And they end up having a vested interest in pursuing a particular foreign policy.”

Let's start with a landmark book:

A doctor in child psychiatry says: "The abuser is capable of waiting to commit the act."
People scare the child by saying "Daddy's going to prison, and you wouldn't want that, because Daddy loves you so much".
"The legal system gives the benefit of the doubt to the aggressor and it's up to the child to provide proof..."
"You know full well that if you report a family that is deprived or in a precarious situation, you're more likely to be believed than if you report a family of teachers or doctors. It becomes a 'social problem' of poor people."

The "Costs of War" project, based at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, estimates that the total death toll in post-9/11 wars – including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria and Yemen – could be at least 4.5-4.7 million:
Stephanie Savell (2023) https://watson.brown.edu/costsofwar/papers/2023/IndirectDeaths
Blair is one of the Western leaders who shares complicity for this appalling death toll: https://mondediplo.com/2003/07/01ramonet
State lying has been thrown down the memory hole by media outlets who welcome him with open arms.

Colonial Convergence
Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi, who teaches at the University of #Haifa, #israelPalestine, explained the paradox: “One can detest Jews and love Israelis, because Israelis somehow are not Jews. Israelis are colonial fighters and settlers, just like Afrikaners. They are tough and resilient. They know how to dominate. Jews are different. They are, among other qualities, gentle, non-physical, often passive, intellectual. So one can go on disliking Jews while admiring the Israelis.”

In this article Sonia Boulos and Tamir Sorek discuss the policing of the use of the "Genocide" word.
"Abstract: Both societies, Israeli and Palestinian, harbor a collective trauma of annihilation and a national ethos of victimhood. While it is understandable that both sides see themselves as victims of genocidal acts in the current unprecedented wave of violence, when the term “genocide” is used in Western academia and public debates to describe the Israeli attack on Gaza, it is highly policed and is quickly associated with antisemitism. Considering that the Gaza Strip has lost almost one percent of its inhabitants while Israeli leaders use explicit annihilatory language, language policing surrounding genocide has become fatal for Palestinians."

Watch Geoffroy de #Lagasnerie in March 2019:
"What describes itself as non-violent [militancy often] is the sacrificial acceptance of one's own exposure to state violence and the preservation of state violence."
"What is the point of saying that the institutions are legitimate if not of furnishing oneself with a clean conscience, of justifying the state's repressive apparatus?"

"Science only treats nature as a set of objects, and as such will never be able to embrace the real in its entirety (which, as we have said, includes the objects, but also what renders them to be as objects)."
from Martin #Heidegger's lecture "Science and Meditation", published in Essays and Lectures (in 1954), summarised by Etienne Klein https://etienneklein.fr/conferences-de-martin-heidegger/

#Rationalism is a philosophical position or view that #reason is the source of knowledge.
Vernon J. #Bourke wrote that rationalism is defined as a methodology or a theory "in which the criterion of #truth is not sensory but intellectual and deductive."

“Public torture, in seventeenth-century Europe, created searing, unforgettable spectacles of pain and suffering in order to convey the message that a system in which husbands could brutalize wives, and parents beat children, was ultimately a form of love… It seems to us that this connection – or better perhaps confusion – between #care and #domination is utterly critical to the larger questions of how we lost the ability freely to recreate ourselves by recreating our relationships with one another. It is critical, that is, to understanding how we got stuck, and why these days we can hardly envisage our own past or future as anything other than a transition from smaller to larger cages.”

“What makes the Roman Law conception of property - the basis of almost all legal systems today - unique is that the responsibility to care and share is reduced to a minimum, or even eliminated entirely. In Roman Law there are three basic rights related to possession: usus (the right to use), fructus (the right to enjoy the products of a property, for instance the fruit of a tree), and abusus (the right to damage or destroy). If one has only the first two rights, this is referred to as usufruct, and is not considered true possession under the law. The defining feature of true legal #property then, is that one has the option not taking care of it, or even destroying it at will.”

“...Slavery finds its origins in war. But everywhere we encounter it slavery is also, at first, a domestic institution. Hierarch and property my derive from notion of the sacred, but the most brutal forms of exploitation have their origins in the intimate of social relations: as perversions of nurture, love and caring. Certainly, those origins are not to be found in government...”
