Springtime in Sydney
The beautiful purple-blossomed jacaranda tree was introduced to Australia from Brazil in the 19th century. They’ve since flourished in Sydney’s tropical climate and sunny weather, and in various other locations, notably Grafton.

#Floodwaters have surged into Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre. The lake, sacred to the Arabana people, will get its most significant top-up in a generation, as water and #wildlife spread across the outback. This is the 2nd largest salt-lake in the world – its surrounding basin is 1/6th of #Australia’s landmass.

This is how Australians do early-voting at Bondi Beach, a coastal suburb of Sydney.
It’s even more fun when Democracy Sausages, lamingtons, etc, arrive at most polling places on Election Day, 3rd May. These are sold to raise funds for local schools and community groups during Australian Elections.

Many young people around the world, not just in the US, are hurting right now. If you work in education, healthcare or similar frontline positions, please help them to feel seen, heard and as safe as possible. Direct them to where they can access further help, if needed, by providing local hotline numbers. And, as always, take care of you. 💜

Escape
When we get out of the glass bottles of our own ego,
and when we escape like squirrels turning in the
cages of our personality
and get into the forests again,
we shall shiver with cold and fright
but things will happen to us
so that we don’t know ourselves.
Cool, unlying life will rush in,
and passion will make our bodies taut with power,
we shall stamp our feet with new power
and old things will fall down,
we shall laugh, and institutions will curl
up like burnt paper.

Nearly 50 years ago, you, President Jimmy Carter, installed solar panels on the White House roof. And although Ronald Reagan tore them off in one of his first ‘official’ acts as president, this is just one of many inspirational things you’ve done in your long and productive life.
I am astonished that I got to meet you, randomly, as so often happens, while traveling some years back. In the same way, I ran into Gough Whitlam with his wife, post-politics, in Peru, doing international peace work late in life, particularly for the youth. Much of what you’ve done has passed unremarked by the media.
I thought of you today as I attached #SolarPanels to the back-up 'jenny'. You - a thoughtful man who saw the future and embraced it, loved people and acted on that love, cherished #democracy and worked to protect it globally - made a huge impact on so many people’s lives, including mine. Thank you.
That was mine. Here’s #MichaelMoore’s letter of thanks to #JimmyCarter:
https://www.michaelmoore.com/p/dear-president-carter
