I once saw an extremely based analysis of Marxism and religion about how Marxism took on Orthodox forms in the USSR (putting up icons of Lenin everywhere) and took on Methodist forms in the Anglosphere (having a small reading group where you study Capital) and once you start noticing these patterns you never stop seeing them. IRL I know an activist who grew up Pentecostal and her whole style is Pentecostal (influencer who tells you what is Correct Thinking and Is Never To Be Questioned)

Like aside from whether Literally Every Frat Boy Is a Rapist or Not (obviously not true in the literal sense), every frat boy has extremely essentialist ideas on gender and the "but they do good things" argument for preserving fraternities basically comes down "but they help men be nepotistic with each other in business/politics later on in their lives," which is actually just another argument for their abolition

2026-10-07 17:47:11 UTC

In my posts about how fraternities should be banned to prevent things like what happened at Cornell, most people agreed with me but two men (obviously it was men) flipped out on me because apparently "my proposals coincide with the interests of the elite" and apparently I'm a "gender essentialist"
As if fraternities were not schools of gender essentialism that prepare the future elites

In a further exchange, Patel explained to Senator John Kennedy, the Louisiana Republican, that previously, regulations had barred anyone who engaged in bestiality “on either side of it.”
“Either side of what, the bestiality?” asked Kennedy. “So you disqualified the animal?”
“We have great canines, but we’re not going to disqualify them,” said Patel.
Kennedy said that the change in standards had “really hurt the FBI.”
“Why would you even get into bestiality?” he asked.
“We’re not into bestiality,” said Patel.

Sophus Halle argues that Gilgamesh cannot be thought of as gay in the same way that we do not consider ourselves to be masturbators, in that it's a practice for us but not an identity, which is both a good way of illustrating the way that gay sex has always existed but gay identities have not, and also shows that he has never heard of gooners

Ludlam said he did not know who Dobby was, and became confused by the calls the company received, saying a colleague told him: “Apparently we’re going to go straight through Dobby’s grave”.
“I said: ‘Dobby, who’s Dobby? I don’t know Dobby?’ I said: ‘He’s a fictitious character in a fictitious book, the whole thing is fictitious, what are you talking about?’”
He said the colleague told him: “No it’s very, very serious.”
The firm then enlisted planners to find a new route that avoided the supposed grave. “A lot of people were very happy about that, and the project is now going [ahead] and Dobby’s happy.”
In the end, he said, “we went quite close to some real Bronze Age remains, but we avoided Dobby’s grave”.
The Bronze Age remains include urns associated with human burial.

"But here’s the irony: Nolan has to recast xenia as the universal golden rule because the concept is alien to those who paint themselves as inheritors of Greek tradition. By contrast, every Pashtun, Chitrali, Persian, Tajik, Turk and Arab practices xenia. They just know it as “mehmaan-nawazi,” “melmastiya,” “misafirperverlik” or “diyafa.” If the Spartan helmet signifies a connection to ancient Greek tradition, then the Afghan asylum-seeker has more right to it than the people rioting to keep him out. If civilization is to be defined by geography, then the East, where ancient Greek codes of hospitality and reciprocity persist, has better preserved Homer’s spirit than the West."

I don't agree with everything in this text (for example, many Africana philosophers are, in fact, in dialogue with Western philosophy - Du Bois did read Hegel, for instance, and Fanon was friends with Sartre) but it's nevertheless an important argument about how thinkers outside North America and Western Europe are only read to the extent that they can be assimilated to a certain white supremacist canon
