(Note: UK based POV)
I gave up on TV in 2004. The ads had become unbearable and I decided it was no longer worth enduring the crap to find the decent content. I've used only DVDs ever since, and I'm happy. I use YouTube for more ephemeral or up-to-date content.
However, I'm a stubborn guy. If I can't have entertainment the way I want it, I dig my heels in. Most people, it seems, go with the flow.

I'd like to propose a new abbreviated reply:

I'm still struggling to get my head around what's happened. If I were to travel back to the 1980s in a time machine and tell my past self that forty years from now peaceful protest would be criminalised, my past self would probably assume it was a Tory government, or even a full-on Fascist one.

Please help if you can! I'm at my wits' end. I've tried an ISO; I've tried a Mojave installer app; I've tried both VMWare Fusion AND UTM. NOTHING WORKS. Why is this so hard? All I want to do is run MacOS Mojave on a Tahoe with Apple Silicon. SURELY it's possible?

Anyone know how to virtualise a MacOS 10.14 Mojave image on an Apple Silicon (Tahoe) Macbook Air? I've tried VMWare Fusion AND UTM, and had no luck understanding what to do. It's really frustrating :(
Fusion is supposed to support this, but the "New" wizard doesn't show any MacOS options on the menu (apparently it should!) and UTM is just BAFFLING, too technical.

Took me a while realise it was BCD, haha! I was confused for a while.
I have a watch from around 2004 with four LEDs for the hour and six for the minute. One thing I liked about that one was that half past the hour meant the middle four lights of the six lit up. Quite pleasing.

"Listen to the sustain on that."
"I can't hear anything."
"Well you would, though. If it was playing."

So sorry to hear what's happened, it sounds like the worst nightmare imaginable. This part particularly made me roll my eyes:
"I can’t even sign out of the blocked iCloud account because… it’s barred from the sign-out API, as far as I can tell."
FFS. That is terrible API design...

Thank you, this is great! Half way through now. I love this bit:
"And because AI is just a word guessing program, because all it does is calculate the most probable word to go next, the errors it makes are especially subtle and hard to spot, because these bugs are literally statistically indistinguishable from working code (except that they're bugs)."

Wonderful photo! But I can't believe that's Amersham because there's a train at the platform! *

This seems a bit baffling to me. I look at both those graphs and see a trend in each case, there's no real difference in impact. What's different about me? I'm not a scientist, though I did study maths.

Does this mean people will drop WA? And maybe that my friends might actually start responding to emails and SMS within 24 hours again? I can but hope.

I'm genuinely unable to understand why anyone but a psychopath would press that button. Do people really stop to think about this?

I have an unusual #AltText request. If you're posting something with a really long explanation, then it's really great that you make sure it's in alt text of course, but please ALSO put it in the post if you can. On my browser, hovering over images displays alt text for only a few seconds, and it's quite irritating having to keep moving the mouse back and forth to read it, especially when it keeps popping up in random positions.

There will never be another album like it. I like to compare what Oldfield did to Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Tolkien invented an English mythology that was never real before; Mike Oldfield seems to have created music that makes me yearn for a long-forgotten past that isn't real either. It's very hard to explain, but that's how I feel.

He has no respect for other humans. Like all megalomaniacs he wants to turn all of us into his toybox so he can play. Starlink was a terrible idea anyway and should be removed entirely. Not only does it increase risk of a space junk catastrophe, it also ruins night sky photography and astronomy. Why do we let these individual people do things with global impacts? It's a VIOLATION., like he's carved his name onto our skin without permission.
