more info regarding the autistici.org domain from @npub1m7m…2e7k. the organization responsible for all .org domains has put the domain on hold. the public interest registry is based in virginia in the usa and is responsible for all .org domains
assuming they caved to pressure from the trump admin, this could happen to any domain under .org
as other comments point out, .net is also managed in the usa so riseup is also susceptible to this kind of pressure. their infra is also in the usa which makes them even more susceptible
AGAIN, I'M NOT SAYING THIS TO SUGGEST YOU LEAVE THEM FOR GMAIL OR ANY OTHER BIG TECH ASSHOLE! i'm telling you to be realistic about threats to the data you trust them with and to reevaluate what you can tolerate right now. unlike gmail, i have a high degree of trust that if you decide you cannot tolerate your emails or other data being compromised, and you leave, and ask them to delete your data, they *will* delete it
if you have any questions about how this can apply to you, feel free to dm me your signal handle and we can chat there. i'd be more than happy to help you evaluate your threat model and risk tolerance, and to help suggest possible action plans

more info from https://www.ilfattoquotidiano.it/2026/08/29/autistici-inventati-trump-terrorists-news/8491452/
> The collective confirmed that it has not received any injunction from U.S. or Italian authorities: their website was simply taken down less than 48 hours after the designation. The organization’s PayPal account was immediately blocked as well.
>
> Autistici/Inventati relies on donations and has a bank account with the Italian Banca Etica. As of this writing, Banca Etica appears intent on closing the account. Nor can Autistici/Inventati rely on Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies to circumvent a banking blockade: “We never wanted anything to do with cryptocurrencies because we believed they were a form of financial speculation,” they explain to Il Fatto, reiterating their anti-capitalist views. “We have never accepted donations in Bitcoin, otherwise we could have probably become rich, but again: our goal isn’t to get rich,” they say, “We want free and open services—not commercialized ones—that offer people the opportunity to express themselves both privately and publicly on the web or via email. We can’t read any of the email content; it’s all encrypted, because that’s how it should be”.

two points for clarification:
riseup is NOT explicitly mentioned but if this kind of thing worries you, then i would recommend taking your precautions now. as i said, they're definitely in their sights and have their servers in the usa so they can take much harsher actions more easily. likewise, similar providers like systemli and disroot are probably also up for sanctions
i am NOT suggesting anybody go to gmail or other fashtech. i'm not even suggesting you necessarily leave autistici/inventati! i'm saying that you should be aware of what threats are likely with these providers and for you to do your threat modeling appropriately
see this post with some recommendations if you decide you can't tolerate this for your use case:
https://438punk.house/@xyhhx/117171158108353211

2026-08-28 03:41:44 UTC

hey gang, i know many of you use riseup and noblogs which is a service offered by autistici
the united states has issued sanctions against them and formally categorized then as terrorists:
https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/sb0616/
https://www.state.gov/releases/office-of-the-spokesperson/2026/08/designation-of-autistici-inventati-as-a-specially-designated-global-terrorist/
needless to say, service providers like riseup are in their sights, if they haven't already been popped! and be sure that anybody using their services are likewise on the menu for further action. this includes any emails on those providers' infrastructure (even if you use a custom email with them - the actual email provided is public info via dns) or websites hosted by them!
be aware of this when making your moves!
- i would not recommend publicly using an email for any known provider for anything that can be associated with your name
- i would not log into any of those services unless over tor or a vpn you trust to a high degree (including ssh etc)
- i would not host websites on their infra unless directly relates to activism
- i would absolutely never use their email services for anything sensitive, incriminating, or containing personal info (tbh this applies to all email including proton and tuta). i've reviewed their encrypted email stuff and it's lacking
- absolutely never use their vpn services

btw y'all my mom is offering to be a kind of "gooder mom" for people whose parents don't accept them. she's a boomer, and still kinda learning in some ways, but she's kind and wants to support trans kids (everyone is a kid in your mom's eyes) however she can
if you or someone you know could use that kind of compassion, we made a kind of lobby system, and you can join (or share) via this link:

hey gang. i'm close to my goal so i can get my rent paid before the hearing, and now @npub1wmw…4udt has updated the old fundraiser for me to reflect the current target:
https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/donation-form/help-a-community-organizer-find-a-job-and-avoid-eviction
it was at $1735 from the last fundraiser, so the new goal is $1735 + $1450 (my rent) - $880 (what i've accumulated thus far at the time they updated it) = $2305
sorry if that's confusing!

i need to raise $1450 cad. at the moment i can only accept e-transfers (all canadian banks support this, if you're american wise supports it), but a zeffy fundraiser should be ready by next week
if you can help, please consider sending a transfer to loyal.labour64@zeropost.net with "rent" as the answer to the security question

my cat has gone missing. he's an indoor cat, very timid, generally very scared of people
he was last seen at home yesterday in the plateau area, near de lorimier and mont royal. if you have me on signal i can give exact address
i dont think he'll come if called, but his name is pippin
i created a signal group to coordinate search efforts. if you can help me print flyers or procure wet food to attract him, i have no money at all (my welfare was cancelled) and could use all the help i can get:

yes, i read the EFF's article. they are known to exaggerate claims or use FUD to make a point. read better writeups (likr citizen lab). read the bill itself.
the bill doesnt describe backdoors to any encryption as far as i could see (granted i only skimmed), only data sharing with less bureaucracy, and increased surveillance of whatever the provider can already see
mom on facebook is susceptible; but your vpn isnt required to compromise your encryption

this was in cotes des neiges, on bedford, between cotes des neiges and darlington. I left around midnight and only made it back at 5 pm, she's gone but her leash is here, so I can only assume she ran away
if she did, she had to have jumped off the balcony, so she would i assume be limping??

if you're not very tech savvy, firefox derivatives are probably your best bet. they both value privacy and come with sane defaults. i would recommend using container tabs, ublock origin, and maybe jshelter as far as extensions go - nothing else.
browser extensions are a major attack vector which is why chrome is doing manifest v3

on the other hand, nuclear technology goes hand-in-hand with nuclear weapons; bureaucratic incompetence is all but inevitable; and renewables exist

really? maybe i'm mistaken but i thought push notifications generally contain plaintext content. do you mean specifically for signal?

this is very misleading:
- clarification: desktop only works when you have a mobile device setup and pair it like these (unless you virtualize android)
- if someone gets access to the phone number they can impersonate you and then obtain info from your contacts. they'll be notified of a change in your "safety number", but unless they're being vigilant they might still comply with the bad actor
- push notifications are somewhat insecure, but group chats have nothing to do with it. the attack you describe would work in any chat, and the resolution is the same: don't invite or accept chats you don't recognize, and always verify out of band.
- if you disable notifications or use f-droid it will not go through apple or google push notification servers
- bonus point: your best bet for device security is @npub1kwa…e0nj on a modern pixel. everything else is insecure by comparison

okay uh intro time
my name is pronounced "sheesh", i went by he/they until recently but i think i'mma try just they/them and see how that feels
i've been a software developer for about 15 years, though recently i've been focusing more on infrastructure, infosec/privacy, and digital data sovereignty
nerdy shit aside, i like bicycling, making ramen, whistling, plant-based food, being silly, environmentalism/sustainability, anime, art, dogs, self improvement, good therapists, foxxos, and supporting queer folks and bipocs
i hate cars, bigots, posting pics of myself online, seagulls, at least half the cis guys ive met, the IDF, headaches, bad therapists, black licorice, and most AI & blockchain implementations i've seen thus far
if you're in tiohtia:ke/montreal, you might've seen me either riding around on my bike in the summer with no shirt on, or walking comically fast in the winter while kicking slush onto my calves 😮‍💨
as for music, i'm into all kinds of stuff but suck at genres so u can judge me based on whatever i toot/boost
my profile pic is an illustration reminiscent of the movie posters for akira, but kaneda is approaching a bicycle
my banner is a cropped image from @npub1z8r…mrq6's writeup (which is a beautiful piece): https://100r.co/site/computing_and_sustainability.html (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0)
