A couple more shots of the Wheatear, it was getting blown about in the strong gusts so it had to stabilise with his tail.

Following the Wheatear down the beach we were in for one last treat.
We stopped to watch him hop around in some scrubby shingle. I knelt down just as he hopped out the side of some vegetation and settled on a large stone about 3m in front of me!
It was amazing to see him right in front of me.

@nprofile…h3es agreed, is this related to the article I saw saying Anglian Water wants to open two new reservoirs by 2030. I’ve not seen a proposed location but I’d be excited to visit for the reasons you mentioned.
It’ll be a bit barren to start with but the biodiversity will develop, I’d expect a lot of migrating geese etc. would be pretty happy it existed.

Back in April we visited Mayday Farm, it’s near Brandon and right in the middle of a big pine forest.
There’s a tiny pond hidden at the base of a tree, it’s got a liner and it’s about 2m wide. It’s popular with photographers as lots of birds come in to drink and bathe.
The first of two lifers I saw was this Crossbill.

Back in January we found out a Black-Bellied Dipper had been sighted at Bintree Mill, about 30 mins from home. A Dipper, in Norfolk!
We headed out in the cold and snow to take a look, see if we could see it. It was very cold so we only lasted about an hour. It was just long enough to catch a glimpse, to see the white bib but not enough to raise my camera before it was gone.
Also around the mill and river area including under the bridge was a Snipe, a Marsh Harrier and the little Wren below.

A couple of weeks ago we headed up to Sheringham on the North Norfolk coast. It was very cold but local birders were reporting a rare visitor.
The Eastern Black Redstart. When we saw it the Redstart was favouring the windowsills of a block of flats and a small neighbouring building site, not the best background but some clear views.
While we were waiting and searching with the other birders, a large black SUV pulled up and three fellas hopped out who had just arrived from northern Wales!
eBird users are still tagging it there even today if you want to find it.
