#Today is election day in Brazil, which is a guaranteed holiday as voting is obligatory. At least in my city, all public transport is free today to ease the way for voting.
Wish us luck, friends.

do i have among my followers an apiarist, or anyone who studies bees? 🐝 i saw a post claiming something which read to me as a bit far-fetched. my own research yielded no answers, and would like to ask an expert how possible the post is. (i’d would rather not spread something fake in the meantime!)

another blissful summer day. the forecast #today portends rain! clouds! gusts! …but the perfect blue sky suggests else.
the doorman plays mass aloud on his phone, and i mull over a pair of unexpected kinships. “we need to find our people,” my partner says, echoed. where are ‘our’ people? are our parameters too restrictive? the people i feel most alike are divided from me by class, always class, insurmountable class… and again i hear my doctor reminding me i should go back to school. sei lá!

Good morning, #writersCoffeeClub! It’s nearly january, and here’s that month’s prompts! This month’s theme is “Plaster,” inspired by Clarice Lispector’s The Fifth Story; it you’d like to check that out, you can read it here: https://lithub.com/the-fifth-story/

Ah, the little wounds… A nightmare which seemed aleatory, yet over coffee revealed itself as a poking at the bruise of a recent wound. They say we remember these things that we, forewarned, should be forearmed, but i prefer less war in my metaphors.
Back to the job(not work)week, and it is so it is. I started again reading a book I had to put down because its prose was too much brashy poesy for me to bear: now, foreread is foreprepared…? 😅
Steal some time for yourselves #today, friends. 🌞

@nprofile…lggw It can be very difficult to accommodate all the sizes and resolutions and specificities of all the potential screens! And I am still very much learning about this entire world of making text-based images for wide dissemination. I really do appreciate the kindness and patience. ♥️

2025-12-01 13:50:31 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…lggw Goodness! Could you instead of taking the screenshot right-click to save the image? Then you could have a full-size copy saved? I could also shift to a horizontal (rather than vertical) format.

2025-12-01 13:42:32 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…lggw Alright, I will go for PNGs instead of JPEGs. Sometimes the compression is not great… Are you able to take screenshots? I’m very worried something else is going on, and I do strive for legibility and accessibility, so I’m very upset that’s not happening!

2025-12-01 13:36:30 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…lggw I wonder why this could be. The resolutions are all high and are exported as JPEGs, so I wonder if something in the expert process (or the upload?) is causing this. Does this look better for you?

I use this app to write, and have used it ± since it’s initial release on the mac: the name LONG precedes the current zeitgeist. I have used it because its opinionatedness *used to* agree with mine: distraction sours the work, focus on what matters. Which *used to* be writing.
I don’t understand the point of this. Why insist you care about writing, when you push the idea that everyone must be using AI so you must accommodate them? You’re a word processor!

#Today I will read.
The wind is too cool and the clouds linger too lazily for beachgoing. The weekend is upon us, but this week’s struggles mind only a timekeeping of their own making, and care little for human conceit. Life and job make their temporal demands, yet I find myself barely aware of the day of the week.
I can’t fault myself for feeling adrift: this block ‘tween Christmas and Carnaval is a non-season, a period beholden only to itself, a moorless dockless stationless island of time.

2025-01-01 04:34:57 UTC

A sea of white-dressed revellers, laughing and shrieking as seven times they leap over the white froth of the midnight waves, the fluorescent-bleached beach strewn with the stalks and blossoms of white palm flowers: Iemanjá, grant us peace. We flock to the waters in holy pilgrimage, our synchronous hearts abrim with white-gauzed hope.
Happy new year, friends.

2024-12-29 11:39:35 UTC

#writersCoffeeClub 29 dec readers
I’ll offer counterpoint to the nicer replies.
I have a reader who, dissatisfied with a piece I shared, has stalked me across social media. When I block them, they harass my mutuals or make aliases to evade the block. They leave demanding comments on every new piece I share. This has gone on for more than five years.
I write for myself. If a reader likes what I write, great! If not, I hope they find something else more to their liking. I owe them nothing else.

@nprofile…args I live in a city surrounded by mountains, but they’re small tame mountains that are very accessible and comfortable, friendly even. We love our mountains! They have sweet names, like Sugarloaf and Pretty Rock!
I cried on the train when I saw Mt Fuji for the first time, because things should NOT be THAT BIG.

#writersCoffeeClub 11 Aug Do you consider any of your work to be unfilmable?
I write books.
I don’t make content. I don’t tell stories. Props to those who do, but that’s not me.
To quote McLuhan: “Indeed, it is only too typical that the ‘content’ of any medium blinds us to the character of the medium.”
What message is imparted by the work’s chosen medium? Why that medium? Why not another?
If a book could just as easily have been a film or a TV show, then why is it a book in the first place?

2024-07-08 17:46:05 UTC

English really has so many lovely words for being tired or worn out:
bushed, beat, busted;
dead, gassed, fried;
knacked, knackered, nadgered;
bleary, weary, tried;
zonked, faint, spent, jacked;
whipped, wiped, wrecked, whacked;
drained, pooped, fucked, shagged;
tapped, taxed, drooped, lagged;
done in, done up, overdone, done for;
woozy, drowzy, rundown, footsore;
bone-tired, bone-weary, bleary-eyed, puffed;
weedy, tuckered, not up to snuff!

#writersCoffeeClub 30 June Pants or plot
Funnily enough, back in April I wrote about this on my blog: https://sulfur.ink/posts/pants-or-plan/
TL;DR: Does the distinction really exist? Do words mean anything? Is this not just another Wittgensteinian language game designed to reveal more about the speaker than any distinction of objective truth?
