I wonder if they look at 2010 - 2019 & 2020 to the latest figures if the % will increase further owing to #covid?
Many people haven't mitigated against it for years.
Governments fail to adequately protect people & fully info us. Conspiracy theorists feed lies that are often easier to believe than the truth.

My guess is that the data gives the mean average.
I suspect that in many cities it is well in excess of 44%.

Everytime my job title changed I had to give them my passport to copy (same company).
Every new job I've had needed my NI number.
Those who already take illegal workers will carry on doing so. How would digital ID stop them?

It is impossible not to feel sad, angry or both every day now.
It is similar in the UK. The politicians are boasting policies to remove people. Many have been are legally here decades.
News yesterday was they were refusing NHS care for a child born in the UK whose mother was from a British Territory and now has citizenship here.
After expensive and very long legal cases some people get to stay. However, they are put through so much stress.
We must stop all this hate. :face_hug:

The rhetoric surrounding #Covid has led to most people believing it will do them no harm.
That's not accurate. Repeated #infections make it more likely you'll have debilitating #LongCovid
Many factors increase risk and yet the #NHS #vaccination programme has been reduced to ridiculous levels.
Is it stealth privatisation to charge a £100 for a Covid vaccine for those with an increased risk eg. being over 50?

Aargh! What a nightmare.
I had a lot of fillings back them but it's likely I needed them. The black heavy 'gas mask' was so awful I clearly remember it decades later.
My concern now is that children with teeth in terrible condition aren't getting the care they need.
Much is down to parents not doing anything to prevent dental decay (like mine) but that's no consolation for a child in pain.

2025-09-05 18:21:33 UTC

School dentists in the 1960s made sure children didn't suffer the toothaches they suffer now.
Children learning to brush their teeth isn't enough. We need to make sure they all have access to free dental care.

Busy commuters need a system that works for them.
Tap in & out is okay with barriers but not on buses.
You get to your stop, you're heading for #work, it's crowded you jump off the #bus before it takes off again BUT you didn't tap in the dash.
Unsurprising & an extra stressor.
Needs a rethink.

Sadly, on narrow island roads I don't think substantial bikes would stop vehicles passing too close. Oh goodness, it's very tricky to retro fit the UK with suitable facilities for cycles. We have nice bike paths near me but they don't go anywhere practical.
In Holland & Denmark I've seen very large, effective bike lanes but pedestrians have to take great care crossing them! In places (like Copenhagen) they did seem rather fast & furious.

Effective though cargo bikes are, it's not the bike that's revolutionary, it's the cycletrack which looks to be separated from both cars & pedestrians. With safe cycle paths deliveries & so much more could happen by bike.

Only the NHS treats common conditions when they aren't profitable.
In many cases only the NHS has any aftercare (I've seen a post-op private patient requiring A&E because the only private aftercare was one appointment a week later).
Private at a competitve cost encourages dependency & then the cost will rise or the service will be discontinued for something more profitable.
The Government know this as many of them are making £££ from private sector.

I just finished The old man and his sons by Heðin Brú. I'd started & rejected it a few years back & was just about to send it to Oxfam books when I changed my mind. I decided that as I've been to the Faroe Islands a couple of times I should make the effort & not be squimish about the whaling. I'm glad I read it & feel I have improved my understanding of island life 50 years ago. Great book.

What would make a difference: routes safe enough for an old, disabled, slightly wobbly person; safe bike parking at stores & GPs so you don't come out to find your (locked) bike gone or your wheels squished; methods to get shopping home (panniers aren't enough for a week's groceries). 1/2

Progress is being made on eco-electric heating but is anyone considering the whole picture. Glasgow can get very cold. Eco-friendly electric heating isn't enough on it's own. It won't succeed until there are no winter powercuts & electricity is affordable. Some progress is being made on the latter by heating methods that use less. However, what do people who only have eco-electric heating (without storage) do when storms or road works cut supplies.

Lockdown isn't the key factor here. Owing to lockdown something else has been discovered. It's bad & needs exploring. Children living in outback Australia who can't attend a physical school still learn to communicate. In the UK , doesn't communication start at home before school age. What is happening in homes that results in children not understanding basics. TV, radio, phones and computers were were available to many. I assume under 5s weren't left alone all day.
