Finally done instead of putting it off until 'tomorrow' then missing out.

Very disappointing:
php85-8.5.11 PHP Scripting Language (8.5.X branch)
If others have got it already, all I can see is this as a distribution failure to users in a high CVE situation and why the current model of the FreeBSD cluster is no longer fit for purpose in modern internet.
Change my mind!

2026-10-21 20:55:22 UTC

Don't know if #FreeBSD have built and pushed #PHP updates to the Australian cluster because I'm only seeing 8.5.11 available. FWIW, #OpenBSD has 8.5.12 ready to go for users.

2026-10-15 22:59:20 UTC

And my new #OpenBSD #Lenovo workstation running -current is up and working like a charm. Old skool UNIX workstation for the win.
Maybe I need some NFS magic…

It isn't hard, just increases workload. I've seen external services move IP externally and all of a sudden stuff internally breaks because the internal authoritative wasn't updated as part of the change. Bother internal and external authoritative are completely different except for a few common elements.

2026-08-26 23:26:40 UTC

- reply

Totally agree. Never use split horizon, pain will ensue when you least expect it. Just make an internal subdomain unknown to the outside world and enjoy life.

2026-08-18 06:10:27 UTC

- reply

Yeah, that is it in a nutshell. Governments tend to do delegation. For example, in Australia there is gov.au. For each of the states, the federal government hives off a subdomain and NS delegates that to the respective department. In Victoria, that sub domain delegation is vic.gov.au and then they sub delegate further sub domains.
Typically never an issue for individuals or small project but applicable to large orgs and governments.
I use a sub domain for DNS-01 certificate issuance so scripts can do API requests on a domain that is not structurally important.

Saved my bacon in the data center back in the 90s. No phones, no internet.
Man pages don't teach UNIX, they advise of all the nuances and switches that can be used for the command you want to use. Also includes a very import BUGS section.

I've been a Bunny customer for years. I was a customer before the minimum spend but I spend about $10 p/m now anyway. Their product range is great and have many solutions to solve your problems. My only issue these days is that there is no sub-domain delegation in the DNS, yet.

1) no. Install it from pkgsrc https://man.netbsd.org/pkgsrc.7
2) Most modems can be put into bridge mode but you'll need another device as your router/firewall

Smashing the links with #ZFS #syncoid replication. So much change in 24 hours.... #FreeBSD

2026-08-12 03:59:40 UTC

#PSA for #FreeBSD #OpenSSH portable users. There was a change to 'PermitRootLogin' to be a explicit NO. While this is great for security, those that are used to the 'prohibit-password' default will have big breakage to automated access, like you do with ZFS replication, once you apply the latest quarterly updates.
Message is in the package readme, but if those updates are automated, you'll start scratching your head why things have just stopped working.

General question to BSD Lab users. What would you like to see this instance run on, FreeBSD or OpenBSD? Not saying it will change from FreeBSD that it is currently on but it would be nice to see differing opinions. #bsdlab #BSD #FreeBSD #OpenBSD

It is a shit tool that should be dumped on the scrap heap as it doesn't affect all of the expenditure in the economy. There are a lot of people out there with no mortgage spending like its 1999 causing the inflationary issues. Mortgage holders are spending the bare minimum and doing the heavy lifting for others.
