there are 8 years of podcasts that people can take out of context
i did not know about the bug until that thursday everyone else found out, and as soon as i did i posted here and on twitter

2026-08-02 14:16:02 UTC

i thought coldcard was the best and holy shit i was completely wrong
have been trying my best to help people move for the last two days with no sleep, exhausted, broken, tragic
my comms are overwhelmed by people, trying to respond to everyone
if you are reading this and think your coldcard setup is fine because dice/passphrase/multisig, strongly consider moving anyway to reduce risk

2026-07-31 13:48:17 UTC

- reply

should be fine

2026-07-31 13:27:34 UTC

if you use a coldcard, move funds asap
dont hesistate, just do it
in the short term i see two options for people that dont already have other offline hardware, hot wallet or custodial, for hot the gold standard is sparrow wallet on desktop (sparrowwallet.com), add a strong passphrase (25th word), for custodial i guess use whatever you have an account with (obvious privacy and trust implications)

2026-07-31 02:06:00 UTC

- reply

in the mean time sparrow wallet + passphrase (25th word) should be good
https://sparrowwallet.com
i like trezor safe 7 as alternative hardware but 1) it takes a while to receive it and 2) all wallet code is probably being checked right now so hard to make a rec

2026-07-31 01:01:52 UTC

developing situation, but if you are currently using coldcard move your funds out of an abundance of caution
bugs have been found and exploited using ai
if you used dice rolls to generate your seed, you should be fine
if you use a passphrase, you should be fine
if you use multisig, you should be fine
would still move funds out of an abundance of caution
this sucks, coinkite team should release more info soon

no need to debate shit, we will find out in a month

2026-07-09 13:04:41 UTC

- reply

bip148 had consensus, there was no chain split
consensus can only be directionally estimated prior to fork, which is what makes coordinating forks difficult if the goal is to avoid a chain split
after a fork it is obvious whether there was consensus
my expectation is bip110 is well short and there will be a chain split
i said as much higher in the thread

i understand it just fine
you guys are doing exactly what i expected
first you said there would be no fork
then the fork was proposed
then you said knots runners would not be defaulted into the fork
then it was added to knots by default
then you said you wouldn’t push it through without overwhelming support
now you are doing it with basically zero hash rate
next you will fork, your chain will have basically no hash, you will put something disgusting in the main chain, threaten miners, fail, then pretend you weren’t lying and gaslighting us the whole time
cheers

---
At launch, Zcash diverted 20% of each block reward away from miners for the first four years. Miners received the other 80%. That 20% went to early stakeholders: founders, employees, the Electric Coin Company, the Zcash Foundation, and early investors — including VC-backed investors.
Because Zcash had a Bitcoin-like 21 million supply schedule, that first-four-year allocation amounted to about 2.1 million ZEC, or 10% of the total eventual supply.
Critics called it a mining tax because it was enforced by the protocol: miners had to pay it automatically in every block. Supporters argued it funded development, security, research, and ecosystem growth.
After the first halving in 2020, the original Founders’ Reward ended and was replaced by a new development fund, still taking 20% of block rewards, but no longer paying the original founders/investors in the same way.
