I just saw a chance that a good part of the traffic on your systems might also stem from 30023 articles as they are larger and seem to be used much more in the past weeks for certain forms of spam.
But only statistics on kinds and event sizes could reveal this for your case.

I'm not talking about checking where the requests come from but about stop serving certain content that drives your traffic cost up. When you start serving 404 for the "bad" traffic, the spammers will stop abusing your gateway.
So my spam checking server ingests every long-form article published on nos.lol and if it contains links with domains on blocklists, pareto.space doesn't show articles for these naddr anymore.
But maybe for you it's not 30023 events, that should be investigated first.

Recently I notized a lot of traffic related to 30023 events with porn links. After implementing a block list filter the traffic is normal again. I think this is better than financing porn sites.
If you want I can provide you the source of my Nostr Spam Fighter server or an API key. Pass the naddr or an image link and get pos/neg result.
