It's #KpopMonday and this week's theme is #SecondLook
Share a K-pop song or MV that deserved a second look. Maybe it grew on you, you rediscovered it years later, or revisiting it gave you a new appreciation.

Japan and Taiwan...and even mainland China also have some really good BLs as well. :)

this youtube channel has playlists for a lot of Thai BL dramas: https://www.youtube.com/@rickorangechannel
While those playlists are only BL, they're all posts from official youtube accounts, so you can also find any GL dramas those companies have posted on their official accounts.
Strongberry makes Korean BL dramas so you can find many posted on their official youtube as well: https://www.youtube.com/@StrongberryKr

I usually explain it like...if one person has a twitter account and another has an instagram account, they can follow each other without making a new account. They can comment and share each other's posts as if it were all one site.

I've had to explain to a lot of people why SNSD has 2 names. I honestly think it would have been better to just use SNSD.
WSJN tried to do the same thing with Cosmic Girls and GWSN with Girls in the Park. Both did nothing but confuse fans. I don't ever hear either English name used.
Honestly, as long as the Korean name is either not too hard to spell or can be abbreviated, it's just easier for a group to have 1 name. There's not really a need for groups to have lots of names.

BTS was always BTS. I've been around since their debut and their videos were always labelled as BTS and then the Hangul full name in parenthesis. At one point Big Hit hired a PR firm that tried to change the meaning of the name from Bangtan Sonyeondan to "Beyond the Scene" and no one was having it, not international fans and not Korean fans.

TVXQ is actually the Japanese name. DBSK is the original Korean name for the group.
I'll probably respond to more of the long post once I'm more awake. Lol.

I don't know if Niners would really work for an English name, at least not if you intend to target the US as an audience. Niners is a commonly used short name for the San Francisco 49ers NFL team... a kpop group with that name would be buried in search results coming from the US.
I'm not sure I get the SNSD comparison, most of my English speaking kpop friends use SNSD.

Yup. We don't really have a tag for Taiwanese music yet. If there's folks who want to pick a tag and use it, I can add it to the list.

Hi! We've got a nice little Asian music fandom going here on the fediverse.
#Kpop is pretty active with posts. You can also look at #KpopMonday #KHipHop and #KRock
Thai Pop -> #TPop and #ThaiPop
Japanese Pop -> #JPop
Filipino Pop -> #PPop
Chinese pop will probably be under #mpop (mandarin pop) or possibly #cpop (should be cantopop but gets used generically for Chinese pop)
If you haven't yet, give the #NewMusic tag a scroll. There's a lot of Asian pop mixed in there as well.

...and it focuses on mental health and developmental issues which are not always easy/affordable to get diagnosed and don't always need medications to treat even. Self-diagnosing can be the difference between being a normal zebra or a weird horse...

Hey all, in observance of the 7 days of mourning for the victims of the Jeju Island plane crash, we're going to skip Kpop Monday for this week. We'll return with a new theme next week.

*looks at everyone else's hours....then looks at mine....*
My hours aren't streaming. It's all just day to day listening. (Nothing against those of you who stream, I just don't.) This is just what I listen to while gardening (spotify) or at work (youtube music). My music while driving are MP3s of all my kpop albums.

For those who don't use Spotify, you can get your Recap from the Youtube Music app (even if you normally just listen to music using regular Youtube, it will still pull over your stats for the recap).

Happy #KpopMonday everyone!
This week's theme is #HowIMetMyBias
Tell us who your bias is in the group, then share a video from when you biased them. It could be a solo MV, cover video, the era you discovered the group in, the first comeback after you found the group, etc.
If you have multiple biases in a group, you can give us separate videos for each or one for everyone.
Let's see who everyone biases...

From what I've read, for those further south in the potential visible range, put your phone camera in night mode and use that to look for the auroras. The way cameras process the light gives you a better chance of seeing the colors than with just your eyes.

when we found my cat, he was a tiny, abandoned kitten and full of fleas. The only thing we could do was warm baths with dawn dish soap (vet said he was too small/young for flea shampoo/medicine)...so he got multiple soaks in in warm baths over a couple days...17 years later, he'll still happily soak in a warm bath as long as there's no running water.
