I think Chrome/Safari don’t isolate SVGs by default, and the image is further composited with the page background @npub1fs6…tlr3

Haven’t decided if my first attempt at composting was successful.
On the one hand, these beautiful tomato plants are absolutely thriving in it!
On the other hand, nobody planted them there...

A (new?) trove of issues of Romanian interwar graphic design publications Arhiva Grafică and Grafica Română have been digitized by Biblioteca Academiei Române!

First time composting in the backyard, and this bin (started about a year ago) turned out brilliantly. A sample after sifting.

Almost a thousand typefaces released in 2025 have now been tabulated for #AtlasOfType. Let me know if it’s missing anything! Write up covering hundreds of releases coming soon, probably split in some way or another. Should it be:

The next #AtlasOfType post will be about catching up with foundries established in 2025 (that I hadn’t covered by July), is anyone missing from here?

A little #JavaScript puzzle for you: without looking into it, what do you reckon’s the explanation for this pair of results?
/[abc]/.test() // => false
/[abcd]/.test() // => true

Ah, that’s the date of their last update. The entire list of documents is shorter than when the article was published, under 1200. And the vast majority are tangential to implementing a conforming browser. For example, as of 2024 CSS was officially defined as around sixty modules: https://www.w3.org/TR/css-2024/

I agree with the main thrust of the article, but I don’t understand how the 200-per-year number was produced. It’s way overblown.

The August 1926 issue of Grafica Română features a specimen for Arhaic Românesc, a metal typeface designed, engraved, and cast in Romania in the Cyrillic-meets-Latin style popular at the time. The claim of “the first” in the introductory paragraph is ambiguous due to the sentence structure, but it may be “a first“.

Just pushed to a feed reader near you, this week’s slightly belated #AtlasOfType news post featuring the many, many type releases from the past week, as well as the customary assortment of type-adjacent things to spend your money on.

Yes, I use Pagefind.js with many Eleventy sites I’ve built. YMMV on fuzziness.

I had the embarrassing realization recently that “jumping the horse”, a phrase I was casually throwing around is, in fact, not an English idiom (never has been).

Today’s mini-project: match Atlas of Type entries to @npub17st…jzth URLs. Dice-Sørensen coefficient (as a measure of string similarity) helped match 1495 of 2150 pages before words like “sans” vs. “serif” get conflated. Switching to Elbow Grease from here on. #WaxOnWaxOff
