Dimly Lit Corners

Someone who is dreaming of an interconnected self-configuring, delay & disruption tolerant network, owned and run by individuals for the good of all, which provides forward secrecy, privacy, digital sovereignty by default, authentication when needed, without any blockchain, middlemen, or global authority

Failure is always an option

#Q: Why does the #Rust community tend to reimplement #GPL licensed code as #MIT licensed Rust code?

For me, it's the first time every time. I don't make autobiographical memories.
I may "know" to some degree plot points of the story but I never recall the experience of having watched it before.
Having seen it before is for me like having heard the synopses by someone who read the book as I am watching the tv show?
I don't know if I explain it clear enough.

and yes, we will continue to use this shit internet protocol, if only became we have already invested so much money into it
And there will not be an IPv7 replacing IPv6 to resolve these issues
But maybe, just maybe, when people come together and like want to build their own not-shit robust, resilient, trustworthy, local neighbourhood network, perhaps they could aim for better?

And even switching to IPv6 doesn't solve any of the other broken things about the IP protocol stack: DNS will continue to used to spy & censor, BGP will continue to fail, middle boxes will continue to prevent innovation, lacking proper encryption at IP level will continue to cause privacy problems, the cost of domain names will continue to rise, the cost of IPv4 addresses will rise, rent seeking middle men will use these flaws to #enshitify, authoritarians will use these flaws for evil

There is no incentive for the USA to support it, they have their IPv4, they are currently totally focused on themselves and actually hostile towards the rest of the world. They have no reason to go to IPv6 just to be able to connect to countries POTUS considers "asshole counties". Yes, these incentives could someday change… who knows? Even if the USA someday become less isolator, open minded, this will take a lot of time & may not happen before #TheJackpot, #TheReset, #WW3, or #Armageddon

Maybe it's time to renegotiate for a better network protocol?

The Internet is fundamentally broken and impossible to repair
IP addresses are centrally controlled, you have to rent one, which you can't even take with you when you move
You have to rent domain names at ridiculous prices & DNS is spying on you
IPv4 can't handle a global internet & IPv6 is never going to replace it
You have no privacy or security: Every IP package carries both your own & the destination address unencrypted

Cool pirates also organise safe havens, salvage & repair schools, hacker libraries & spaces, historical musea & galleries, flea markets, agoras to discuss and argue, & bazaars where free & open replacement parts and tools are available for anything the big studios and for-profit companies have to offer & more…

by the time I see something online there are usually already 350 people before me inline showing interest…
If 350 people have to decline before I get to see the place … then I'm starting to wonder what's wrong with it?
