Social media pushes this idea that we always need to be productive. Being productive is great, but having hobbies outside of work is just as important, especially if you work in tech. If everything you do revolves around tech, you end up in a bubble. Hobbies keep you grounded, expose you to new things, and help you see beyond your usual world

I’m working in my free time on a Nostr relay implementation in Zig. My goal is to make it as easy as possible to run and configure, while keeping performance solid.
Here’s the repo if you want to follow the progress. I’m taking it pretty slowly though 😅

You don’t have to remember them all. You end up learning the ones you use the most without even realizing it, and in the menu you can just type to search for any app you want to open

This is what my @OmarchyLinux looks like
FAQs:
- Yes, I’ve been using it for almost a year.
- Yes, it’s easy to get used to the keybindings, and they definitely help.
- No, I haven’t had any issues with drivers. In fact, it’s the distro I’ve had the fewest problems with.
- It has a really good community. The few times something has gone wrong, I’ve gone to the Discord and they’ve helped me out, or sometimes I just wait and the fix is included in the next update.

2026-07-31 20:28:06 UTC

Friendly reminder: the issue with Coldcard was the entropy source used to generate seed phrases. Certain firmware versions produced seeds with insufficient entropy, making them easier to brute-force. If you generated your seed on an affected firmware and then imported that same seed into another hardware wallet, your funds may still be at risk. Generate a brand new seed phrase, move your funds to it, use a BIP39 passphrase, and ideally store your bitcoin in a multisig setup

Software engineering is full of comparisons and competition between developers, and I think that makes it more stressful. It feels like the industry itself encourages people to constantly compare themselves to others. The reality is that creating a competitive environment doesn't make people work harder or better. If you want someone to do better work, you should motivate them with interesting projects or opportunities for growth, not by making them compete with their teammates. Competition is only cool when it's a hackathon, outside of that it's just zzzzzzz

I have the Mondo over-ear headphones and the sound quality is incredible. I haven’t tested the microphone yet, so that’s still pending, but the battery life is insane. I’ve been using them for two days straight, not with nonstop music, but without turning them off, and they still have 60% left. So I’d say they probably do last the 45 hours they claim with continuous playback. Truly recommended.

People don’t fully understand what AI agents mean for open source.
Many open-source projects die because they lack contributors and funding. AI agents allow you to move them forward much faster, without relying entirely on contributors, more advanced projects tend to attract funding over time.

I try to respect all political ideals even though I disagree with many of them, but it’s incredible how people on the left on social media (maybe not all of them, but definitely the ones who make the most noise) have proven to be the least empathetic.
They don’t actually care about what people in Venezuela are going through; they only care that whoever did something, for better or worse, was the U.S. They’re waiting for it to turn into a war zone so they can say, “See? We were right,” without caring about the people at all.
They defend a dictator just because he claims to be left-wing, despite the fact that, in front of everyone, he stole an election, killed people before even being in government, and then continued doing so as president. They were citizens like you and me who simply didn’t agree with what was happening.
There are also records of all the torture carried out on Maduro’s orders and by his people, from rape to mutilation, and that doesn’t matter to them. What matters is that, publicly, he calls himself left-wing.
There are foreigners imprisoned just for being in Venezuela at the wrong time. It’s a xenophobic government that constantly mistreats women and has even jailed people simply for being homosexual. Everything they accuse the right of being is, in reality, exactly what that “left-wing” government they defend actually is—defended from their homes in democratic countries, where elections are not a reason to be afraid, unlike in Venezuela.

They are supporters of Maduro; the video itself says so. They don’t represent even close to half of Venezuela. They are part of the same people who keep the rest of the citizens under threats—people who for years have threatened to take away food or even homes from others if they don’t vote for Maduro.
If you want to know what Venezuelans really think, you have to go to Venezuela and see it for yourself.

I don’t know if it would be better, it’s a change. If everything stayed the same, nothing would change either, right?”

2026-01-05 03:58:19 UTC

There are many foreigners who think Venezuelans are stupid, that we don’t understand that the U.S. has interests behind what it did. Of course we understand—no one does anything for free.
We’re happy not because this is a perfect solution. Maybe it means trading one set of problems for another, maybe it won’t even bring real change. But I can assure you it’s better than the situation Venezuela was in.
Have you wondered why there are no longer as many news reports or complaints about what’s happening in Venezuela? The military used to check people’s phones. If they saw anything against the government, you would be jailed. If someone saw that you posted something against the government, you would be jailed. Even if a neighbor saw you posting stories against the government, they could go to the police and you would be jailed. You could simply be in the wrong place at the wrong time and be imprisoned under charges of “terrorism.” Many young people are in that situation today, many of them even disappeared, with no information given to their families.
In prisons, people are subjected to everything from torture to rape—young people who in reality committed no crime.
There are countless political prisoners in what is considered the largest torture center in Latin America.
Many people from outside try to explain to us that this isn’t a dictatorship, but when someone proclaims himself president after losing an election and then disappears, imprisons, or kills anyone who says otherwise, that is a dictatorship.
I only lived under the governments of Chávez and Maduro. At first, the biggest problem was insecurity—I lost family members to crime. Later, I lost family members because of the government. By the time I left, the military scared me more than criminals. That’s what dictatorships feel like: you’re afraid, you’re trapped, and you can’t speak.
We don’t care how—it’s a freer Venezuela that we want. We know there’s still a long way to go, but we also know there was no other way for Maduro to no longer be in power. We went out to protest, and many people ended up dead—people my age and even younger.
Every democratic path was tried. We won the elections and proved it, and still it didn’t matter. He proclaimed himself president and killed or disappeared anyone who said otherwise.
So don’t come tell us how the U.S. “screwed us over with the bombing,” because if this is something we have to go through to get rid of Maduro and his people, then we will go through it. There will surely be other problems ahead, but it will be better than how things are now.

Cryptography is the science of protecting information and messages with mathematical algorithms so that anyone who is not authorized cannot see them.
The word comes from the Greek terms for “to hide” and “to write,” but it has actually been used across all cultures, from the ancient Egyptians to the present day on a global scale.
There has always been a need to protect information.

Hackers took control of Qix’s npm account and published malicious versions in widely used npm packages containing a crypto-clipper to steal mainly from wallets and products that require making and signing transactions. More details at: https://jdstaerk.substack.com/p/we-just-found-malicious-code-in-the
At least in the Bitcoin ecosystem I haven’t seen anything affected so far (wallets usually prefer not to use JavaScript/TypeScript, so very few depend on npm). I have seen wallets from other blockchains and products affected, as well as people who have already been robbed.
As a user it’s difficult to prevent this, but as developers we can. When developing in JavaScript/TypeScript, we should evaluate which libraries we add and whether they’re truly necessary, also review the libraries used within others (yes, this is common), and avoid updating without first checking what changed.
