The "crown" issue I have with every watch so far. But years ago I started wearing it upside-down and configure the WatchOS to switch it around again. It also feels much more intuitive to press the crown with my thumb instead of having to fondle it with my index finger.

At what point and for what reason did we begin using YAML as a legitimate configuration file format? YAML is arguably the most terrible format ever devised. This entire indentation semantics thing is just sickening.

I was called by the Lenovo AI to confirm a date for the technician to replace my laptop battery. It was obvious that I was talking to an AI. The weird and awkward thing: every time I gave an answer it was silent for 5 seconds and played some "typing on a keyboard" sound, to simulate that there is a real person typing my replies into the system.
Why this shit? Like do they think this makes the process more "human"? It's absolute bullshit.

Apparently there is no notes app (as knowledge base) that fits my requirements. The requirements are (IMHO) not that high, but apparently nobody has the same.
- Must be FOSS
- Must provide some kind of sync (be it git, some simple (self-hostable) cloud service or simple file structure that I can put into a auto-sync local FS)
- Must work on Linux, Android and Windows (even though Windows is not that important)
- Must "speak" markdown
- Native clients (no Electron)
- VIM bindings
Any ideas?

It took some time, but it's finally working...
go-mail v0.8.0 (release planned in the next few days) will add native NTMLv2 SMTP authentication support (without any 3rd party library dependency).
I couldn't have done this without the absolute fantastic documentation of the cURL project: https://curl.se/rfc/ntlm.html
Thanks @npub1cm0…enqe for providing this. It saved me so much time!

There are so many stupid inplications, that these idiots did not consider. Like, will I have to confirm my age every time I start up a debian docker baseimage?
I think we need to get to a point that, same as we have to say "I'm not a lawyer" every time we talk about legal stuff, lawmakers have to confirm that they are "computer/internet/technology literate" before they are allowed to pass suchs bills.

2026-03-05 13:04:27 UTC

Why do we even talk about the "age verification" bills from California and Colorado in the context of open source software?
Why should the whole world change for bills that a) are so imprecisely written that one could think they are meant only for iPhones, and b) apply to only two U.S. states?
Fuck those states and make your software prohibited from being used there. Let the people living in those states fight with their fucking clueless legislators and let the rest of us alone with that shit

Ah yes. I've seen that before. I once received a beg-bounty request for my go-hibp project (Go bindings for HIBP) because the integration test with the API performs a "password has been leaked" check for the password "password" which is hardcoded in the integration test.

It's fascinating. One would think, that if you disable all "data collection" settings in #firefox mobile including the "daily ping" option, your DNS wouldn't still constantly show this from that specific phone. Yet, that's exactly what is happening here.
I've now switched to Fennec (which is basically FF) and the constant Mozilla pinging stopped for good.

Today I was told that my "version" field in the database, which is an int32 value, is risky because int32 would overflow at some point.
That is true, but given that it's a version counter that is incremented with every job run - which is once ever 2 hours - the overflow would happen in approx. 490k years from now. I'm confident that both the scheduled job and myself won't exist anymore at this point.
So please keep your "useful advise" to yourself, if you don't have the full picture/context.

#Cloudflare seems to have issues in Europe. How I noticed? Half of the web services I use weren't working. It's interesting how we build infrastructure which is highly redundant and yet there are still major "single" points of failure like CF, AWS and Google that can shut down half of the internet and you can't really do anything about it.
Edit: Fixed typo

As an FOSS maintainer and contributor myself, the whole #WordPress situation is super easy to me. If you don't want other companies to make profits out of your software - even if they don't contribute back to it, don't make it #FOSS or choose a license that restricts commercial use. I am 100% certain that Automattic (what a stupid, narcissistic name) uses Linux for all of their systems and that have not contributed a single line of code back to the Linux project.
