In 1988, we were the entertainment at Reagan’s last White House congressional barbecue. Video of a portion of the show has been sitting on YouTube for 38 years. I tripped over it today. https://youtu.be/VJ_91w7a_ZM?si=42JN7Yy1cEKz9VRb

An article in Military Times says sailors are trying to jump overboard from the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Persian Gulf.

I bought the cheap dental floss this week, and when I pull the sting, the dispenser makes a noise that sounds like a barnyard full of turkeys. Not “like a turkey” - like 8 or 9 turkeys. That’s all. That’s what I’m posting about today. My dental floss sounds like 9 turkeys.

The funny thing about this picture is that it comes from the cover of Washington Jewish Week, and it was there to promote their article announcing that my wife (who was also in a comedy troupe) and I were getting married. They asked for a picture where I was on my knees.

When I played Dan Quayle in The Capitol Steps I used to tell this joke. It came in the middle of the song “Talk Like A Dan”. There was also a joke about epicenter and Epcot Center, but I can’t remember it (1990 was a long time ago).

The #Wapo insists the #BirthrightCitizenship ruling was 5-4. The #AP says 6-3. #CNN says 6-3. #NYT isn’t giving a vote count. How hard is it to count to 9?

In the book you will learn that Clyde Foster, not Dorothy Vaughan trained young Black people in Alabama (not Virginia) how to run NASA’s newly installed computers; and that David McGlathery, not Mary Jackson challenged the State of Alabama (not Virginia), so that he could take classes at all-White schools and become an engineer. I invite you to read this book. In it, you will find stories featured in “Hidden Figures” the film that are not in “Hidden Figures” the book.

For years I was obsessed with pairing numbers so they added up to 7, and then picturing those numbers as domino dots. I also found myself singing (in my head) the same 32 musical notes. Then, when I was 63, I was diagnosed with #autism (and learned that that behavior was likely an act of self soothing), which has been revelatory. https://share.google/5Vh9XN1giKjPGaeBW

If you’re coughing and have a runny nose and bronchitis all the time, look into Eosinophilic Asthma. My wife just did. It’s only been 2 1/2 days, but it’s not too soon to say that the treatment has changed her life.

In 1983, Annie Groer published a list of phrases that journalists use to blur what they mean. So, if you see “critics charge” it means “I think.” Others were"Observers say,” which means “I couldn't find anyone to give me a quote, so I’m making this up based on a conversation I had at a bar."
• "Well-informed sources": "The guy who sits at the desk next to me."
• "Informed sources": "The guy who sits at the desk next to the guy who sits at the desk next to me."

Dr. Gladys West died over the weekend. I created a video about this brave and brilliant woman who did much of the math that enabled the creation of GPS. Her obituaries are all saying she was 95. As you’ll hear in the video, she told me she was 100. I interviewed her 5 years ago. You should be able to view the video here: https://youtu.be/r1DIThvv0Zs

This is from the first year of Monday Night Football. The article suggests that the games are bad for players’ health, and also bad for strip clubs. I found this at the bottom of the box in my basement.

You’re not wrong. Professionals say so. I’m moderating a panel in February with therapists on how to raise boys in the 21st century. Every panelist I’ve pre-interviewed has said essentially that — “First of all - don’t be like him.”

My little corner of the Smithsonian. This is me, next to the portion of the Destination Moon exhibit featuring my research on the first African Americans in the space program. The small picture at the bottom is of Julius Montgomery, the first Black man hired at Cape Canveral. The 2nd picture is Julius speaking at the Museum in 2009, at a panel I moderated.

I saw that yesterday at the Golden Globes, the MC used one of the first jokes I ever wrote for the Capitol Steps. The joke was: On CBS News, you see BS news. That was in 1988.
