My work in lumpentheory traces back to a critique as a much younger me of Marx, whose analysis declares that emotional investment in work is rendered obsolete by wage labor relations.
Programming, as a hobby, was always very much tied up in ego-value, in autohagiographic self-assessment as being good at something. In particular, at being good at something that it was socially unacceptable to be good at. The word "prideful" conveys a moral judgement that is distinct from the way "pride" is used by marginalized groups. And to be a "nerd" or "geek" in my lifetime as a Usian was most definitely to be of a marginalized group.
That wounded masculinity of high school clique culture carried forward into an industry that at the same time was being overrun, at the academic level, by career-minded folk who would take an undergraduate CS degree without ever having touched a computer keyboard before. It was the next doctor or lawyer.
An industry need not be comrpised of folk who overtly promote misogyny in order to masculinize as a matter of accruing power. Patriarchy bakes the misogyny is baked in to that process.

Only experience with troubleshooting a residential kitchen fridge, but depending on age, it might be that there's a coolant leak? Eventually the pipes develop faults and leaks happen. Possibly with a commercial unit the leak can be found and remediated (this is typically more costly, if done by a professional, than the price of a new consumer fridge), the system then reinfused with fresh coolant.
Diagnosis might begin with an infrared thermometer. Start by finding out how hot the compressor and coils that dissipate heat from outflow of same ought be under normal conditions, and use the infrared to confirm they're reaching appropriate temperatures.
If the compressor isn't getting hot enough, despite otherwise running, it may need replaced. (Much cheaper than fixing a leak.) If it does, but heat drops of precipitously before reaching the dissipation coils, there's likely not enough coolant left in the system to be stay compressed, let alone move heat.
Also, while you're back there with the infrared, make sure the coils are clean of dust and debris, as that alone can compromise performance.

There was an article being shared the other day regarding a mathematical proof that supposed "AI" machines, if cut off from human input, would in feeding on their own outputs, converge toward a disconnect from representation of the world we inhabit.

As noted in further into Sling article, weaselly language abounds in this discourse. Normative custom to read all such analysis through the spectre of capitalism leads to increasingly convoluted euphemisms.
Even "price gouging" is guilty here, both because the term collapses temporality into that of geopolitical shock, thereby marking what is essentially the practice of arbitrage as somehow exceptional, but also by marking the discussion as one of fetishized exchange-value rather than as an expression of use-value capture.

Yeah, this was early grade school, so had no context for understanding what was happening either.
Personally, would love to be able to say my meltdown (plural? no idea, recall* too little of childhood to say for certain) was due to autism, as that would indicate being part of a group of folk with common experiences.
But the more myself am educated about the lived experiences of autistic folk, the more clear it becomes that my neurospicy brain ain't fit that designation.
*Probably only recall that event because of the trauma afterward of being told that would not be coming back to the Quaker school. Though, of course, don't recall being told. Only the fact that being told happened.
