@nprofile…3q9y It's difficult for that to survive future updates, which might change in ways it wasn't programmed to override. It's also difficult for that to have no side effects, beyond it's specific targets, so people would notice. (One time someone noticed a slowdown, and it led to discovering the exploit.)
People use that argument mostly to get you to use closed source software, or to trust binary plugins and packages, ignoring that this gives many more opportunities to do this with every update

@nprofile…d0yj Orca are jerks. I know someone who's trapped on their way to Portugal because orcas will sink boats and murder people for fun.

@nprofile…wq0y That's one nice thing about Godot. The "res://" URL refers precisely to the project folder, and any files put in and taken out of that folder will automatically update in the UI.

@nprofile…29up Oh, well that's... troubling. I don't see why indie games couldn't release it on DVD though. It would increase your game's longevity at the expense of Sony's visibility, so it's win/win all around, if you can budget the CD pressing.

@nprofile…d0yj It's a lovely 14 second song, even though they have to repeat it several times to fill out the rest of the recording.

@nprofile…d0yj The first one is the most obviously leftist, before the developers got dark and demanding and their automobile obsession bled through. I don't have the reflexes to play the rest.

@nprofile…d0yj I'm more concerned with wobble physics than storyline these days, but I would like to make a game that had a meaningfully different message than other stories we are given.
Maybe with a Tropical Island theme... does Jak and Daxter count as leftist?

@nprofile…d0yj I've been trying to get the resources together to have a let's play for over 3 years now. Other people just turn on their PS5 which they have and contact their corporate overlords to stream it on The Cloud. It's honestly astonishing both that I can't and what they have to give up just to broadcast vidya.
Now Let's Players will stop themselves from humming, for fear of copyright strike.

@nprofile…5y0h That's a good word for it! It tends to get quite... ridiculous whenever I try to emulate springs. I realize the entire field of mechanical engineering is devoted toward making designs structurally sound...

2026-03-01 05:27:53 UTC

When you have spring systems under the force of gravity, how do you keep them from collapsing into a flat plane or line of overlapping springs? I know some systems don't collapse, but why is that? What's the required criteria?

@nprofile…ezqw @nprofile…x9w4 @nprofile…sut4 @nprofile…rhuz Have you heard of https://gnunet.org ? That's a fully secure opensource peer to peer modular stack that's been around since um... 2001. Mostly a german professor's pet project, but it seems very nice.

@nprofile…x9w4 @nprofile…ezqw @nprofile…sut4 @nprofile…rhuz My biggest concern is not a lack of a threat model, but without a spec, it is difficult to say what dat is. I appreciate hearing that "corestore" and "hypedht" are fundamental, but the website visualization doesn't even work for me, and besides that, there's only a flat list.
The fact it's written in javascript is also concerning, as that language is prone to dependency hell (as seen in the visualization).

@nprofile…nz6q When you reuse existing code, it does make putting a game together a lot easier. I prefer to use open source though. It's less skeezy.
