Let me correct myself. I see now on mathoverflow there is a new version of Engel's note. He removed the explicit computations of the original claude paper and rewrote section 6. He has fleshed out the aforementioned idea he hinted at in the previous version. I will need some time to digest it, but it definitely looks much more readable than before.

Engel's exposition is praiseworthy, he tries to elucidate the meaning of the construction. However as far as the verification goes the most crucial part of the claim was not checked at all - he defers the homology computations to Claude that also doesnt give a definite view.
He mentions there might be another way to check if the constructed threefold is the six sphere instead of explicitly computing homology groups, I wonder if there are any updates on that matter.

is there a simple way to see the complexification cliam?

They produce an explicit compact complex threefold and then using explicit computations show its a simply connected homology 6 sphere and therefore the 6 sphere. But as you can imagine there is plenty of room for mistakes, I would be amazed if it turned out to be correct.

it's good that you see it this way, Hinton himself has a different opinion. He humbly stated that the prize is important because it gives him credibility, and shows that Chomsky's school of linguistics is wrong and worthless. Because we know having a Nobel prize in physics makes you an authority, especially in linguistics and neuroscience.
As if there wasn't enough embarassment in this already.
