I was just watching some more "#Canada as the 51st state" nonsense and got to wondering...
If you are #Canadian and happen to read this post...
Would you, as a Canadian, be interested in joining the European Union? (voluntarily of course, we're not Trump 😂) #eu #europe
Just curious what people are thinking.

Nonsense.
The very liberty you talk about negates your price argument.
Free (libre) software allows people to do with your software what they want. Even taking it & using it without paying, or asking money for distribution.
It does not place any legal obligation on the user to contribute financially in any way.
That's the liberty part of free open source software you were talking about.
Like I said, I do feel there is a moral obligation to contribute, but the user decides

This.
Nicely worded too. This is part of the very #concept of FOSS.
While #opensource developers need to eat & should not have to #worry about their #health and #future, just like anyone else...
Creating #FOSS is an act of ##love and inherently an act of #volunteering to do something #good.
Having said that, it'd be morally right for users, especially #commercial ones, to #donate to #individual #developers.

100% tax on any yearly income above 250 million.
50% tax on any (realized & unrealized) asset growth above 250 million.. -or-
100% tax rate on any realized asset growth above 500 million
They did stuff like that around WW1 and WW2 so its possible.

As both a car and bike driver, I have a couple of observations you can of course ignore. 😂
1. Crap American style trucks, which don't fit our roads, are more popular.
2. Bikers have a tendency not to look at cars nor give priority when they should (at least in my town)
3. Cars are often not necessary in centers but sometimes you have to & should pay extra attention.
4. Public transport is expensive & sucks monkeyb#lls. For work, car: 1 hr, public transport: 1.5-2 hrs.
Just my 2 cents.

That's one way to look at it. That period was way before my time, so I have to judge it through the coloured lenses of history.
In any case: people nowadays should be focussing on standing & working together to promote & defend "common" decency, respect and rights.
The oligarchs will not do it for us.
Personally I don't care if someone is "left", "right", black, purple, gay, trans whatever.. if we can have a respectful chat & work together, that's enough for me.

I rather see it as there was a brief period during the interbellum and 20-30 years post WW2 where people collectively thought wealth transfer was unacceptable... and were vocal enough about.
We lost that.

I'm not sure how that was decentralization to be honest.
People that were denying COVID and antivaxxers seemed to have been primarily relying on F***book and Twatter from what I remember. Not exactly decentralized.
The true root cause of the problem was/is IMHO: lack of education & lack of critical thinking skills.
Divide and Conquer my friend.
Give the populace bread & games and we will stay in power.
I.e. modern media, including "social", are the games.

Yes, open source but I (and others) do have some concerns with their licensing.
https://danb.me/blog/futo-open-source-definition/ is a nice read into the topic.
