Stock android now quietly links your phone number to every Google account signed in on your device, on by default, with no confirmation prompt. Yet another reason to leave Google for good: https://www.androidauthority.com/google-auto-phone-number-verification-android-3723117/
Your next phone should run iodéOS!

You lose your phone and need a new one. Every option on the shelf is an iPhone or a stock Android device. What's the biggest problem with these options?
A) The carbon footprint of making a new phone
B) Privacy: tracking built in by default
C) Bloatware and AI you don't want and can't delete
D) Planned obsolescence: that same bloat and AI aging your phone's processor and battery

2026-10-02 18:32:07 UTC

Our blog post on the carbon cost of AI in phones only told part of the story: https://blog.iode.tech/ai-mobile-os-integrations-are-planned-obsolescence/
There's more: When datacenters grow faster than power grids can handle, they use some of the dirtiest electricty: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/oct/01/us-datacenter-new-jersey-pollution
We all pay for this, whether we asked for any of it or not: with higher energy bills, pricier electronics, surveillance, a hotter planet, and dirtier air.
A degoogled phone is one real way to opt out of unwanted AI.

Your phone's new AI features are driving a surge in Google's carbon emissions, quietly harvesting data every few minutes, and pushing hardware requirements that make older phones obsolete. Degoogled, privacy-first operating systems like iodéOS block that tracking at the source and keep working phones useful for years longer, one of the most effective environmental choices you can make.

Interesting pilot from Switzerland's Federal Council: testing open-source alternatives to Microsoft 365 on 3,000 workstations:

While it's great to see digital sovereignty moving from rhetoric to procurement, desktop is only one part of the story. Mobile devices are also ubiquitous in the workforce, and leak far more data than desktop systems. This problem also deserves study and budget attention.

Not sure why your phone got bricked, but please ask in the forum, someone may be able to help recover it. Hopefully the phone is not hardbricked. Provide as much info as possible. As for downgrading from 6.7 to 6.14, it isn't possible, as android updates prevent rollbacks. This is a standard security feature native to all bootloader locked devices. Files on github start with 7, which is iodeOS 7 (A16), should be able to update without a problem from 6.7

One hope is that Motorola will facilitate custom ROMs and release a flipphone within whatever line they choose to release (if rumors are true, 2027). Until then, your best bet may be the pixel 8a or the Xperia 5 V, both of which have a 6.1" display

With iOS age-gating users in the UK, you may be asking whether to get rid of your iPhone? Will Google will soon follow?
The answer is simple:
Your next device should run an open-source, degoogled operating system: iodé will never include privacy-invasive technologies in iodéOS. #iOS #Android #enshittification #diday

@nprofile…wwkt Legitimate is a good word, as big tech is clearly aligned with the US military. But it isn't just about whether your data can be reliably recovered: much more concerning is that it is a terrible choice for collective privacy. You yourself may have "nothing to hide", but communities under attack have everything to hide: https://blog.iode.tech/degoogle-your-life-mail/ #digitalsovereignty #gmail

Exactly. The OS is the first and most important thing to "uninstall" on a phone: Privacy requires fully degoogled Android.

While this terrible measure might seem like it will help degoogled OSs gain more adoption, we too must speak out:
The affects of a signifcant loss in the user base of F-Droid will have bad effects for the entire ecosystem: some developers may no longer bother placing their apps in F-Droid if the user base is significantly reduced. And that affects us all.

Several EU governments are proposing to age-gate the internet: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/articles/c62wy92pjeeo Removing children's voice to participate in social media looks to many like protection, but the truth is that the algorithms of the tech giants are not only bad for children, they are bad for adults, society, and democracy, and that is where we should be passing laws, to make big tech algorithms transparent and healthy.
