in many Indigenous cultures, there is no precise word for "nature", because you can't separate what was never divided; at least in the way modernity did. western modernity drew a hard line: humans on one side, all the rest on the other. one has reason the other doesn't. one has rights, the other has value. one is subject, the other object. this split made colonialism, industrialism and ecological destruction thinkable.

well, fedinauts. I’m reaching out to ask for help.
My grandmother is dealing with chronic venous insufficiency (likely a thrombus), and in Venezuela we don’t have a functioning healthcare system, so everything has to be paid out of pocket.
We’re currently raising about $200 for exams, medication & transport. Anything you can contribute would mean a lot to us.
If you can’t donate, sharing this also helps ❤️ thank you so much!

as a Venezuelan, I’m willing to answer your questions about what’s happening in my country! ask them here, but I won’t give you any “neutral” take. I reject the imperialist aggression. My answers come from a decolonial, anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist perspective. I don’t have much time and energy as you may suppose but I can answer a few questions

don’t let them fool ya #Venezuela:
- not all opposition to Maduro is pro-imperialist. there are opposition groups, on both the right and the left, that reject foreign aggression and are prepared to defend our country
- there’s no such thing as “Venezuelans” as a single, homogeneous group. Some people, mentally&culturally colonized, support an invasion and justify the killing of innocent civilians, as long as it supposedly turns Venezuela into a “decent” country. I call them Magazuelans

for over 500 years, imperial forces have humiliated, kidnapped, and murdered our local leaders to crush resistance and enable the systematic looting of our lands. gold, silver, pearls, coffee, bananas; today, oil: the main fuel of the insatiable monster they created, capitalism
despite massacres, betrayals, and setbacks, we have resisted and we will continue to resist for another 500 years if necessary. for the forest, for biodiversity, for collective life, and for our right to joy

G20, under the presidency of South Africa, dropped a huge report on global inequality
- the richest 1% grabbed 41% of all the new wealth made since 2000 & the bottom half of all people on earth just got 1%
- 2.3 billion people are skipping meals
- a woman in Kenya is 37 times more likely to die having a baby than a woman in Sweden

Yesterday, a landowner killed our wise leader and chief, Cesáreo Panapera, of the Yukpa people, from the Irapa group. The pain is too much. Once again, the rich capitalists believe they are the owners of the world, of life and death, they believe that they can kill with impunity. We have three young men injured too. #Venezuela

Hey, fediverse! I wanted to share that our chief Martina is caring for Yelitza, an Indigenous woman who gave birth via C-section in Maracaibo last Saturday. The trip back to the village was hard, Yelitza and her partner don't speak too much Spanish and had no money, but they made it. Now Martina’s supporting her postpartum and her 98-year-old grandma. Since she can't formally work, she could really use some help. Can we lend a hand?

It’s not about remembering a heroic defeat that props up a national narrative, as some intellectuals from ex(neo)colonial states try to make us believe. It’s an ongoing resistance against colonialism, ecocide and the struggle for a world where many worlds can fit. As my friend Nick Estes says, our history is the future

venezuelan phraseology x
the armadillo works for the agouti
[cachicamo trabaja pa lapa]
said when someone puts in the effort, only for another to take advantage of their work without contributing. in the forest the armadillo digs and works hard, but the agouti comes along and takes over the armadillo's burrow without doing any of the labor

This week I found out about the whole JK Rowling thing, and on a different moment, the accusations against Neil Gaiman too. Disgusting. I’ve always thought worshipping authors is a bad idea. The concept of being a fanatic of another person always has some dangers. In the end, all idols fall from grace. On another note, the whole art economy is completely broken. A handful of artists become millionaires while the vast majority, very talented and creative people struggle just to meet basic needs.

It's raining in the Amazon forests. Tuíre #Kayapó, a great indigenous leader and chief, has passed away. Her courageous spirit and unwavering dedication to protecting her people and the life of the forest leave a legacy that will inspire generations. As Aiton Krenak said, she was the woman who postponed the end of the world. #RestInPower #TuíreKayapó
