I wish I could agree, but Noem's not "hurt" by this at all. She wasn't hired for her brains and no one who is outraged by this ignorance has any power to do anything to her.

Am I the only one who thinks it’s creepy AF that a Tesla is always recording its surroundings and every person going by on the street?

#Buffalo, NY representing at the #50501protest today. About 40 people at this moment, but the event ran for 5 hours and people came and went. (Yes, it was 17F with occasional snow.) #50501movement

Indeed. I wonder when the last time anyone told any of them off like that, especially in a forum they couldn't immediately leave.
You can bet Bishop Budde won't be asked to officiate any other performative events again - and the advance person who vetted her will probably be fired. There are plenty of evangelicals who would have fawned all over him.

Breaking Away, an American film from 1979 is a fun, very bike-centric bit of culture.

MAGA would cgladdly do away for the Amendments - except for the second one of course. The rest have been nothing but trouble.

I'm sure they make sense, but the corner stores (and even big grocery stores) doesn't sell MREs and while I'm sure they're easy to find online but if they're not on your mind you're never going to search them out.
I also believe that a significant portion of the population has really rudimentary skills as far as feeding themself at the best of times. Cereal, junk food, frozen food, take out.
Urban populations aren't used to thinking of nature as a threat.

In the Blizzard in Buffalo that killed so many people several\who died had ventured out of their homes to buy things they needed (diapers, baby formula, food). In the aftermath there were a lot of recommendations to stock up, but also push back because many don't have the money to keep a weeks worth of food on hand for their whole family. (Or not the kind of food they want.)
And you're right that many people lack the skills/mindset to deal with existential threats.

Fair enough. To clarify my thinking, and make it more contextual, "Can there be any doubt that the average American knows less about politics, the economy and civics than they did 40 years ago?"
I saw a quote recently from a journalist who said that many people they asked "are you bothered that Trump may be an authoritarian" replied, "what's that?".

Are you saying the average American isn’t wildly less aware of, or interested in, knowledge than 40 years ago?

The water authority in Buffalo, NY quietly removed fluoride for several years - only just reintroducing it a few weeks ago (it’s true). The removal only came to light when some parents started asking questions about why their kids were having so many cavities. It wasn’t ideologically driven, just garden variety incompetence and lack of concern.

"Absurd"? Is it? Musk is the richest man in the world and if Trump wins he will be arguably be the most powerful. Putin is also powerful and Russia is probably a huge potential market for Alphabet.
On the other hand, Harris is far more likely to attempt some sort of trust-busting if elected.
Google's just looking to maximize shareholder value.

Probably opening up a can of worms here, but are there one or two best HAM Radio 101 resources out there for people who know little more about it than that it exists?
