No, not at all. I was always wondering why people where so set against it.
I personally saw no need, but also not the problem. Maybe it was how it had been used on Twitter?
Anyway, no I have not seen any change in the toxicity of the conversations I engage in.
That being said, I filter agressively on everything I know trigger me and make me a rage monster, and actively try to only post positive things.

It's not cheap, and hourly prizes had been a bone of contention in my line of business for the last few years. OTOH €900 is not outrageous, but maybe seen as somewhat premium.

Interesting. So it sounds like your players like it when there's some structure to the procedure?

I've found it usually works best for us when we generate characters together, as it usually means they naturally connect together, and it's more fun. But, I guess it's a case of knowing your players. I don't think I've ever heard of players not wanting to, but there you go.

The personal combat aren't complicated, but a bit wonky. The community alternative is more in line with later YZE games.

I've had the books out and am seriously tempted. Have you checked out the variant combat rules from the community content? They looks like something I'd adopt if I brought the big C to my table.

I can totally relate to that. I really get a feeling of stage fright and stress if I have to write my own material. I remember ending a campaign of 7th Sea because of that, and because I never felt it had achieved what I set out to do. My players objected, because they had *loved* it!

I'm not sure I agree that is a good metric in general. It made you miss Fading Suns for one thing.
A good metric for easy of adoptability, yes. But, that isn't necessarily a good game.

I bought that book partly because of that cover. The stories it hint at, and that title, is so inspiring! Sadly, I haven't managed to bring any of that to the table, yet.

So I just read another chapter in Chuck Wendig's book, "Black River Orchard" and it ended with a scene of spousal abuse, and the victim deciding to stay to "save" her victimizer.
I know this is horror, not comfort, but I really can't stand the idea of this trope any more.
This is the second book by this author where I've found myself putting it down in disgust because of people acting against their best interest.
Do I have to stop to read horror?

I seldom start a book without an in, like a review or recommendation. In many of those cases the first sentence doesn't mean much.
I do feel the first pages do set the tone for expectations, though. So, a good opening is important still.
One of my favourites has already been posted, but there's another one quite memorable that I've been known to quote:
" to wound the autumnal city. So howled out for the world to give him a name. The in-dark answered with wind."

An odd find. WW2 based rpgs aren't common, and Fasa is a classic so I had to pick this up. First book somewhat affected by mould, but the staples in surprisingly good condition.

I think the general oppinion is that Al writes big books, which makes your feeling that some things are under explained interesting.
One thing I think he does very well, and if this is an effect of his use of show or tell I don't know, is how he creates a very special mood. When I read a RS series book, it has that future gothic noir atmosphere from page one. I like that a lot.

I'm reading *The Dispossessed* for the first time. Yeah, I know I'm late to the party...
It's a set of very weird worlds she's portraying in this book. I find the culture on Anarres revolting in it's insularity, and groupthink. At the same time the misogynism expressed by the people on Urras is just as disgusting.
It really isn't a clear cut ideal, any of them. Classic Le Guin making things more complex than you first imagine. She was good.

I prefer to have one one of the players do the recap, because it tells me what they got from the last session. In an investigative game, that might for example tell you they forgot or overlooked something important.

I just finished *The Stardust Grail* by Yume Kitasei, having been recommended it as a book that might appeal to Becky Chambers fans.
I thought it was a very entertaining romp. A fun heist story set amongst weird aliens and a grand space opera background, was is there not to like?
Chambers might be better at the character development, but this also had action. Good fun!

The holiday season is a perfect season for some #boardgames, so today I got to try Wingspan.
I listened to the episode of The Game Design Roundtable where they talked to Elizabeth Hargrave, and became curious about the game (https://thegamedesignroundtable.com/episode/222-elizabeth-hargrave-talks-wingspan/).
Building things off your curated hand, collecting resources you need is a classic setup, but in this case *where* you build is also significant.

2024-09-17 17:49:37 UTC

A #fountainpens question. I have a pen that dries out all the time, and is a slow starter, so I'm thinking maybe it needs someone to do some setup work on it.
But, where do I send it?
I live in Sweden, and AFAIK there are nobody around here that does that kind of work.
Anyone have any suggestions for where to send my pen, in Europe?
