A non-superuser being part of "wheel" group alone cannot "shutdown" a #NetBSD host. Being part of "operator" group however overcomes that.
Feel free to test yourself if being part of only "operator" group but not of "wheel" would allow you to "shutdown".

Alternatively are there some type of #markers I should look for?
Sharpie "permanent" marker rubs off easily from polished metal, smooth plastic surfaces & does not last long.

- boot in "single user" mode via the FreeBSD menu;
- edit "/etc/rc.conf" to comment out the relevant "kld_list" (or, whatever else responsible to load the GPU driver);
- exit, to "normal" mode;
- build the driver port, or install the package, for the relevant version;
- load the driver module;

@nprofile…npxa @nprofile…4xx3 Right now the first “announcement” is about the upgrade of Mastodon software to v4.3.3.
When the f.z server came back, I was thinking perhaps the outage was due to the upgrade. Later saw your OT about the UPS issue. So that undated software upgrade was not involved.
While the server was down, it took some time before being presented with the status link. And whenever I checked the status, the orange & red bars were in the past for me while f.z still being unavailable.

In “Files” section, “$HOME/.kshrc” is not listed.
That may explain the behavior that you observed.
Now if some settings from “$HOME/.kshrc” are used nonetheless (without “$ENV”), I would not be able to explain.

Along with that when I started a reply all the usual toot visibility options were also available.

@nprofile…t4qe If you would use "main" branch (of "ports" tree), then you may have some ports built which may not be actually needed; during installation would cause conflicts with already installed versions; so on.
I would first change to "latest" in "/etc/pkg/FreeBSD.conf"; update the packages; then, go on to build the GPU driver from "main" branch of "ports" tree.
