A new Insurance Institute for Highway Safety study compared smartphone telematics with police reports for almost 17,000 crashes in Connecticut, Illinois, Ohio, and Texas. After excluding passive screen activity such as an untouched navigation display, the data still show a huge gap: phones detected active use before crashes far more often than police documented it.

Take a look at this. A Tesla Robotaxi in Austin pauses, seems to reconsider a right-hand turn through some bollards, and then decides: "I’m just gonna send it."

I'm pretty sure that's not safer for pedestrians. It's as pointy as that one chariot from Gladiator.

Well, I would say the test results were conclusive, if nothing else.

Another day, another Cybertruck being towed from somewhere nobody really ought to need a tow from. Take a look, Toyota Sienna to the rescue.

Unfortunately, you've been replaced by AI.
... so, the Cybertruck will blow _itself_ up.

The new Grok 4 didn't make it halfway through its first day on the job before hurling racial conspiracy theories at users.
This is the same Grok that Elon Musk promises will be added to Tesla vehicles by "next week at the latest."
You'll remember that Grok 3 was briefly shut down *just earlier this week* for a *different* bunch of antisemitic outbursts. This doesn't bode well for the state of AI safety guardrails or Q/A at xAI.

Update: xAI engineers updated the @Grok system prompt, removing a line that encouraged it to be politically incorrect when the evidence in its training data supported it.

Come for the video of a Tesla Robotaxi driving double the speed limit and hitting speed bumps like they are Mario Kart ramps...
... But stay for the conversation about social media silos and corporate disinformation campaigns!

I saw the Tesla Robotaxi:

Drive into oncoming traffic, getting honked at in the process.

Signal a turn and then go straight at a stop sign with turn signal on.

Park in a fire lane to drop off the passenger.

And that was in a single 22 minute ride. Not great performance at all.

I can't imagine a company I would trust less to design autonomous taxis.

In case you thought cars would become safer as technology developed... rest assured, Tesla is finding newer and ever-dumber ways to make their cars dangerous to occupants (and others).
TL;DR: If you're in a Tesla and it loses power (like in a fire), the only way to open the doors is often an unlabeled wire behind either two panels or a *speaker grill.* Tesla owners are DIYing janky rip cords to make that wire easier to pull to escape.

**TL;DR: Self-Driving Teslas Rear-End Motorcyclists, Killing at Least 5**
Brevity is the spirit of wit, and I am just not that witty. This is a long article, here is the gist of it:

The NHTSA’s self-driving crash data reveals that Tesla’s self-driving technology is, by far, the most dangerous for motorcyclists, with five fatal crashes that we know of.

This issue is unique to Tesla. Other self-driving manufacturers have logged zero motorcycle fatalities with the NHTSA in the same time frame.

The crashes are overwhelmingly Teslas rear-ending motorcyclists.

Read our full analysis as we go case-by-case and connect the heavily redacted government data to news reports and police documents.
Oh, and read our thoughts about what this means for the robotaxi launch that is slated for Austin in less than 60 days.

Nothing quite says “high-performance muscle car” like a popup ad for a Mopar Extended Warranty covering your whole center console. That’s right, Dodge Charger owners are now experiencing an exciting new feature: pop-up ads that appear every time the vehicle stops at a light. This absolute garbage feature was spotted in the wild, take a look here.

Updated with video from reporters on-site at the bottom of the post! Late Sunday night, four Tesla Cybertrucks caught fire in a Seattle holding lot near 2nd Ave S & S Spokane St, just five minutes from the local Tesla dealership. Initially, reports indicated two burning Cybertrucks, but as the fire spread, the number grew to 4 Cybertrucks. Investigators have offered no details as to whether this was arson or another case of a Tesla Cybertruck bursting into flames spontaneously. See video from the scene in the full article.

Dateline, Düsseldorf! In a move that’s sure to ruffle some feathers at Tesla HQ, a German court has officially ruled that Tesla’s Autopilot system is “unsuitable for use” due to a long-standing issue: phantom braking. You know, that fun little quirk where your car slams the brakes for no reason.
