This is the announcement of the Threadiverse Vibrancy Challenge!
The Challenge - From September 1 to 30, 2026, complete each one of the categories below with a unique post or comment:
1. (Freebie) Make a shitpost.
2. Make a post about something other than technology or politics or a shitpost.
3. Make a post showcasing a thing or topic you find interesting.
4. Make a post to a community with fewer than 100 subscribers.
5. Make a post to a community in a small instance.
6. Make a post featuring a human-made piece of art.
7. Make an on-topic comment to a post in a small community.
8. Make a comment or post sharing news about a location relevant to you.
9. Make a high-quality long form text post or comment.
10. Post or comment a link from another part of the Fediverse.
I came up with this to encourage a greater variety of posts and comments to niche communities, with the support from people who usually just comment occasionally and lurk.
Participants will evaluate their own progress. If you get a score of 10/10, you will win a virtual **Lemmy Gold Star**, and hopefully everybody will win a noticeably more active Threadiverse in the smaller communities!
Remember to be respectful and follow rules of the instances and communities you post to.
Feel free to share this with your own instance. I will try to post a mid-challenge follow-up in 3 weeks and a concluding ceremony in October in !fediverse@lemmy.world. Good luck!

Canada's got great local craft brewries and distilleries all over the place. We do not need American stuff, and at least on the beer front the Canadian-brewed stuff's just plain better tasting.

Thank you, those tips were exactly the kind I was looking for. I've done a few runs to aluminum, then nuclear power (roughly the endgame in respective Early Access updates) on my own... I've screwed around with a small group of friends to steel beam tier making floating concrete go-kart courses but not much co-ordination needed. My new server will be more serious with letting people build up.
One more question: Is the current post-release version still as crashy as before in EA, or does it run stably for longer without a crash?

I'm planning to start a new Satisfactory world with a number of friends and acquaintances of mine, some from different friend groups.
In a game like Minecraft, the world is limitless and people can set their base up anywhere, obtain resources wherever they please and just trying not to impede on others too much. In Satisfactory I worry a bit about competing over the resources or ideal space, or someone decides to take down another person's hourslong work to make a more efficient factory, etc.
What would be ways that I could fairly share the world with many people? I'd think most of the people would get along and the objective is shared, but I'd want to reduce areas of frustration where possible and would appreciate any advice to that end.

Yep, just another example of cutting the flowers (your hardworking employees that brought forward the successful product) and watering the weeds (executives and management patting themselves on the back).

You should go to Japan, commercial vehicles, service vehicles and emergency vehicles often have audible turn signal sounds, with their turns and reverses announced in Japanese (and in rare cases English).

Seems like the strategy is for us Canadians to feel so sorry enough with the state of affairs over there, that we'd join the states out of sympathy. Nice try.

On the Lemmy side of things... Hexbear is a site full of jerks and trolls but some groups that have interesting discussion. We defederated with them because it would clutter up our Local discussions and All field with their sheer size of userbase.
Another example is for some time a group called !thebirdspapaya_snark@lemmy.ca was one of the more active on the Local feed, dedicated to casting doubt on the authenticity of an Instagram influencer's body image. Not a topic necessarily people are interested in by default.
A third example, most users are good at appropriate labeling political content/channels but by default the all feed tends to be US politics on both Lemmy and Mastodon that is not that relevant to people outside of North America.
Technology wise, the Subscribed feed is the way to curate specific groups you want to see in Lemmy, but that takes a while to select the groups you want to follow, similar to building follower lists and following hashtags in Mastodon.

I agree for the most part, people can curate their feeds to see what they want to see and block what they don't.
However, there is some merit to the argument that requiring too much blocking off and following from the default new user experience is a barrier to entry. When other platforms offer that out of the box, many won't bother if the timeline is full of noise they aren't interested in. Defederating, instance and user banning are usable tools to pre-curate these but they are quite imprecise.
