basically it has two stereo inputs and two stereo outputs. one input takes the mic audio, the other takes the app audio you want to AEC out of the mic input, then one output is a clone of the app audio and the other output is the mic after AEC

got it set up so pipewire creates an echo-cancel module and sets it as the default sink, and looking at the metering in pavucontrol it does an extremely good job of cutting out the speaker audio. the pick up from the AC is weak but detectable, i thiiiiink i can work with it

well yes but i think we were better off that it's what happened, I don't think this fragmentation of effort and support is a good thing. what do you like about the wayland approach? I really don't care about the weird form factor stuff, that's cool for someone, but not me or the majority of users.

2026-02-26 12:22:49 UTC

i wish they had like. designed wayland better. like yeah x11 is aging and all that but i really dont think the solution is to have essentially umpteen display servers all with their own quirks, as opposed to just having a single one that everybody else builds against

for me personally, tiling blows floating out of the water in most cases (having a nice tiling WM was actually one of the primary drivers behind my switch to linux). i feel frustrated and confused and like swimming against the current whenever i have to use Windows. however, sometimes i find floating management superior for certain cases. so i like having a hybrid WM.

it has one extra repo with 60 packages in it, most of which seems to be like settings packages, themes, the installer, welcomer, etc. there is some stuff like dracut in there for whatever reason. otherwise it uses the arch repos directly

oh i had no idea about that. reading into it I feel like they shouldn't've done that but I can understand their reasoning that it wasn't part of the external guaranteed stable ABI, but at the same time they should've known programs were relying on it anyway and it doesn't seem like keeping it around would've broken anything or made any future changes difficult :meowshrug:
