Many don’t know the context of who you are or what you are speaking of. If one is looking for investment, one creates a pitch deck. You need a pitch with details.

I'm seeing this with Sidekiq too. Lots of small PRs with minor changes, adding test coverage, fixing edge cases which never occur in practice, etc.
I can't speak to rsync but it's nothing to worry about for Sidekiq (and to be clear, I still do not use any AI at all)

Towards a safer Timeout API in Ruby.
https://beautifulruby.com/code/tcp-user-timeout
It's a bit of a blunt solution, some sockets may want a 0.1s timeout while others want a 10s timeout. I think a Fiber-local Context API (like Go's but not manually passed around) might be another interesting idea. Maybe I'll prototype something ...

Sure, by migrating it to Azure they made it less stable, but don't forget they also migrated the UI to React so it's slower too. Enterprise-ready™!

but where would I put that page? The wiki directory is an external source so I can't modify it. Maybe a custom deploy step to create output/wiki/index.html?

thank you.
one other thing: for my wiki external source, github uses Home.md as the root wiki page. Is there any way to map/alias that to index.html so I can link "/wiki" instead of "/wiki/Home"?

@npub15z3…0xrp I noticed that Markdown headers get a fragment ID on their anchor, but the page does not display a widget link like in GitHub. Is there a way to enable this, so we can easily grab a direct link to the section?

Interesting. Someone (AWS?) is bankrolling a significant effort to build a new ecosystem of Rust-based client libraries focused on Valkey, not Redis.
Their Ruby gem is under development here. It aims to be a drop-in replacement for redis-rb.

@npub15z3…0xrp It's not clear how to set these options. Can you show an example on the page? https://www.bridgetownrb.com/docs/configuration/markdown#kramdown I want to turn off mark_highlighting since I have a lot of content with "::" (i.e. Ruby class names)

Periodic reminder: @npub1adh…8lgh is smearing Andre in public so they can justify their hostile takeover of the rubygems/rubygems repo after the fact.
An actual community-focused organization would have followed the RFC process which was already in progress.

2025-09-28 23:42:56 UTC

This is a fun article. Any time I’m building toward a major release, I always think “what could I remove without too much blowback?” “What config option has lived past its prime?”
Remove complexity if it has little benefit. Sometimes it’s worth nudging people back onto the happy path.

Justin, this is a hit piece on Andre. Lots of quibbling over word choice and reading his actions as poorly as possible. Are you assuming good faith in his actions?
Looking at the last three links, here’s how I would characterize them:
1. A reasonable conversation on committer vs maintainer.
2. The linked commit is old and does not reflect reality or policy today.
3. Removing inactive contributors is normal, companies don’t keep ex-employees on their /about page.

most of the infra is donated by aws and fastly. RC covers between 12-20k/mo in on-call engineering staff.

2025-09-19 15:31:03 UTC

The unstated reason for this change was that many of the existing Rubygems maintainers have recently quit (including their only full-time engineer) due to RC's continued relationship with DHH.
Since most of the team has walked away, RC has decided to accept a sponsorship guarantee from DHH so they can hire a new team and this is the PR spin of that decision.
I don't see how Ruby Central can be trusted anymore until its Board is publicly elected.

The key to coding productivity is your Mental Model: your own understanding of how all the software and APIs are interacting.
With AI, you aren’t strengthening the mental model in your head and really that’s what employers are paying you for: your experience just boils down to the knowledge in your head.
For junior developers, AI is candy: no nutritional value at all. Eat your vegetables, read lots of code and develop that mental model.

2025-07-01 15:03:56 UTC

I think people would be surprised at how few productivity tools or utilities I use as a programmer. I have only two tips to improve your coding productivity:
- read lots of code, especially your dependencies. Being curious will teach you the entire app stack.
- write lots of tests. Test-Driven Development (TDD) is still the best way to design a high quality API.
AI can supercharge productivity in the short term but be careful that you don’t become dependent on it. /1

Is there documentation about which algorithms and features FIPS mode in OpenSSL allows or disallows? Everything I can find is just super generic with no actual specifics.
For example, when I enable FIPS it refuses to load AES but how can I detect that?
require “openssl”
OpenSSL.fips_mode = true
