What I don't understand is how the police is so incredibly bad at tracing these scams. When you think about it, it is downright pathetic that police is warning people about scam calls about police instead of making sure scammers are in jail for life or just shot in the face by scammed old people whose life savings they stole. Life savings for life.
Instead... police is warning other people about scams ... HAPPENING.. as if this wasn't their exact job.

A question for devs here.
How do you guys report security vulnerabilities to Nostr related open source projects that don't have a policy of private reporting?
I found something that *might* be somewhat of a problem and I tried to contact the owner of the repo and he's clearly not accepting my Messages here on Nostr...
I am now waiting for week to pass which I gave for a response - I didn't know of any other way... And during this week I can't really release ... I just have to wait or be irresponsible and just write an issue on the project? Or just do nothing?
How do you guys solve this problem when it happens to you?

Looking at my of behaviour and that of many others, I have come to the conclusion that passion is often overrated and simple hard work is underrated.
I've always somehow valued passion more that hard work - and completely without any proof. I'm talking years and years lost.
In my head passion was somehow seen as 'pure' as 'inspirational' and 'rare' and therefore valuable, and hard work I've just seen as 'work which anyone can do anyway'.
Oh boy was I wrong.

is that really out of curiousity? Or just some gaslighting attempt I am supposed to be insulted with?
But nevermind.. I'm gonna still answer the question honestly: no.
To explain further: I just despise end-of-the-world islamist cult killing 30k of their own cvitizens for protesting against it. I just despise what happened to Iran in 1979 to women. I just despise what Iran did throughoput the Middle East and elsewhere throughout it's existance. I just depise what they do, how the rule, what they do to femal prisoners before killing them. I'll stop here, but I could go on what I despise some more if you're truly interested. I hope you'll now point out how they extorted a few ships for Bitcoin, which I'm supposed to be greatful for because I'm a Bitcoin fan. I'm also a fan of a Pentagram symbol, yet I still hate old Soviet symbols and what they represnt. I can hold two ideas in my head - sometimes even more.

yes.
Also....
Skepticism and limitations
No public written text: Critics (including analyses from MEMRI, Atlantic Council, and others) note there is no formal, published jurisprudential fatwa document. References come from political speeches, and the strongest prohibitions often focus on use rather than production/stockpiling.
atlanticcouncil.org
Mutable in Shia jurisprudence: Fatwas can change based on circumstances (maslahat or regime expediency). Iranian officials have acknowledged it is not necessarily permanent. IRGC commanders reportedly pressured Khamenei to rescind it in early 2025 amid threats.
washingtoninstitute.org
Practical flexibility:
Iran has advanced its nuclear program to near-weapons capability (high enrichment levels, etc.), which some see as inconsistent with a strict ban. The fatwa has been used diplomatically (e.g., in JCPOA talks) but also described by some as potentially involving taqiyya (permissible deception in certain contexts).
atlanticcouncil.org
----
In short.. it's another lie designed for gullible westerners so they can shift one way or another at any time. This murderous chaos creating cult of fanatics has never been trustworthy and there's absolutely no reason to start trusting them now.

stupid if americans actually suggested that. Stupid for americans and the whole world by extension of course. The IRGC and the rest of the islamist end-of-the world cultists (which is not even remotely the same as Iranians themselves! Let's not forget that) ave for 50years operated exclusevly through lies and extorsion and financing worst forces around the middle east and elsewhere. They are not to be trusted even for a second. Everything they say is a lie because we're just kaffur for them and therefore not worthy. They are the worst people ever. ANd sanctions are the reason they are now weak and the citizens could start protesting in early January. They of course killed 30000 of them before this war and hanged and tortured a bunch more later on so we dont know the extent of the people who are willing to risk it again. So the only way to move forward is to 'starve' the fanatics enough for them to be so weak tat they can't resist their own people anymore. Then.. we have Free Iran and by extension a looot a LOOOOOT of middle east will be able to breath in some fresh air. And I... I intend to visit Iran then because the people themselves.. are incredible. They are just in unfortunate position of being a prisoners in their own country for the last 50 years. And since my communist childhood was in similar type of prison (in my case it was much better because they were already weak at that point) and we managed to overcome it, I am hopefull they will too

Podcast subscriptions in Vega are now linked with your nostr account.
Would anyone with a MacOS be willing to test if Vega is working ok on Mac please?
I unfortunately can't test it since I don't own an Apple computer.
I'd be interested to also hear if there's any problems on any of the Linux distros.
All I could do is test Windows versions and Arch which I use, btw ;)

Vega is of course free libre open source project.

but the point is that it is both. Like dollar and pound used to be. Even if Blackrock and Saylor hold a lot of it, I still don't get how this makes it any worse for those of us who acualyl hold our keys, run our own Core servers and like me also run an Alby hub or two. It might get somewhat centralized but if we do our thing as we should I just don't see a serious problem with the digital gold narrative or with Sailor.
I get you though but I just don't see it as real problem - looking from afar. What I mean by this, is that what Sailor is doing is imho just a minor thing of what is actually coming down the pipe if Bitcoin actually gets adopted by normies out there. Think about all the state actors, some of which will be definetely intent (if we only look down the futre long enough) on destruction and/or manipulation on such a high order this will look like peanuts in comparison.
What worries me is that if we think Bitcoin (or us - the comunity- for that matter) can't handle this, then I'm seriously afraid we're not even remotely prepared for what's coming. And it will come. And it won't be easy to just point to a guy then because it will be coming from all sides nonstop. What we have now... is so small.... sooooo incredibly small compared to what's coming.
Because look... with Sailor... we have a US citizen doing US cotizen things on the open and we already hav ea problem. Think how it will be when 1000s of Sailors coming from places like Pakistan or North Korea or Iran or some othe completely untouchable place (for us) that doesn't give one little piece of shit about what we think or how we feel about it.... That's where I see a real test coming.
I think we better prepare for it and do so with our proven work. We'll have to do our part. We'll have to run competions on how many servers we have in completely different places. Encourage people to do the same... Something... Anything... but just dooming our way furhter.
At least that's how I see it...
I see no reason to think that this will get better in any way otherwise.
Or am i wrong?

Disgusting liar and manipulator! He's a classic example of the doomsday end-of-the-world fanatic islamism he and his government is into. Types like him oppress his own people in their own country, and then turn around and pretend they speak for them when they talk to us. And a bunch of westerners buy this crap!

2026-05-06 10:38:27 UTC

- reply

but my point still stands then... If we want adoption people will be using it in different ways. We'll have to harden against it if it's a threat not trying to stop the guy who does pretty much the obvious in his case. I mean... let's be honest... he's the first. What will follow will be 1000x worse and if Bitcoin cant withstand it we're all just targets waiting for the first nefarious state actor to get it all.
Also.. I'm talking to a bot :)

2026-05-06 10:00:30 UTC

- reply

see that's my understand as well! Also.. if we're really worried about centralisation, shouldn't we just activate bitcoin core servers at every home? Shouldn't we be spreading mining instead of trying to shout at people for using it for something we didn't think off before?
Because if that is not true, then Bitcoin isn't what we're saying it is. What i mean by this is: we're claiming we're all about adoption, but when you think about money historically, this is just earliest form of what adoption actually looks like! I mean let's think through what just dollar was through by now! Counterfeiting, state actors attacking it mercilessly for a 100 years, various speculations and everything else and it's still here. And we're shitting on it from everywhere because we supposedly have the sound money. And then somebody does the slightest move from what we think should be used for, we're all panicking!
Either Bitcoin is truly sound money that can resist attacks or we're just all delusional cultists.
I say the first part is true. If it is, what Sailor is doing is nothing from what will be happening 50 years down the line if Bitcoin is actually going mainstream adoption.
And if we can't really stomach that, then we don't really believe in adoption and we were all just big mouths when it felt 'safe' while in fact just wanting for bitcoin to always remain on the fringes.
All I'm saying is either we're dealing with the one or the other.
I am grateful to all of you responding though. Please don't feel like I'm attacking anyone because that is really not my intent. I just want some clarity of what we actually want as a community

Can somebody explain to me why is what Sailor is doing any of our problem?
How is what he's doing in any way making our Bitcoin worse?
I ask because I just don't see it. And I might be missing something obvious here...
But isn't what he's doing only a successful product build on Bitcoin? Isn't his buying Bitcoin making our Bitcoin worth more? Isn't scarcity the whole point? What am I missing here?

they are not the problem. We're not socialists. depending on 'the system'. For example.. I don't want my system to 'experience' 'it'. Why? Because we had our share of commy revolutions and we suffered through 45 years of it as a result - to this day we're still not truly in capitalism because old cliques have returned through their sons and daughters and are shouting on the street anytime anyone left of marx does anything.
I still don't want a revolution here... I want people to realize they've been scammed by commy LARPers with zero economic brain cells

you're right of course as far as freedom to use goes. Doesn't mean we shouldn't have better tools to manipulate (in the proper sense of the word and not the retard sense of the word . I'm sorry.. I'm sorry.. it was just too easy this time ... ;) ) our own feeds. Unfollow/ignore do some of it, but it's constant work. We need more tools on the client side and I think Wisp is really good at this - possibly the best.
I have employed some filtering features in my own Vega client last week (can be turned off of course) and I can tell you that at least in my own testing, it's like night and day when you look at the Global feed for example. The best I can describe my own feeling that i felt when I first turned it on is that it felt like humans talking again. Don't get me wrong - it's still far from perfect but IMHO it's a step in the right direction if we are to actually make this a communication platform. In my case, ignore was just not enough to make the experience enjoyable.
So, while I am fully dedicated in my Vega development to make this user-switchable and do not gate-keep in the slightest on the relay side of things, I also feel for what @BTC_P2P is trying to say here. Because the truth also is, incentives are the problem whether we like it or not. And 'free' as in 'beer' is just too cheap for most users who actually wanna use it daily for communication. Too much incentives for spamming, bots, scams and whatever else new AI versions will bring on massive scale.
In all honesty, I am sometimes worried that we're a bit blinded and we spit in our own food for what can only be an abstract ideal while reality is turning into a overwhelming wave of bullshittery we won't be able to handle anymore.
Let me explain what I mean: When I first came to nostr the feel of nostr was zapping, good will, good cheer and of course the usual amount of 'fiat is dead' idealistic takes. The overwhelming feel was positive by default. Then spamming started as soon as specific actors realised there's no penalty for it. And from then on it went from bad to worse every half a year.
We lost a lot of people because of that. And the replacement was not of the same, admittedly subjective, quality. Now I'm not shitting on new people, what I'm trying to say is that with each human we got 3 spammers, one crypto guy, and a bunch of randomly created accounts just to spew bullshit and then disappear forever.
Practically every dev is now trying to solve this problem and I hope we can find a good enough solution because percentage wise-humans vs random bullshit/spam/bots/new-not-yet-seen-things-that-are-coming is not in our favour.
The sad truth is that when I returned to nostr after a break on social media it was a bit a of a shock - not a pleasant one. I really like a few people here, and I downright admire the numbner of creative people here, the genius devs and so on, but I am worried it's not sustainable if we don't find a solution that would work for 90% of us who are not here to propagandize and bullshit or hatemonger or spam but would just like to talk and build things.
All I can do here is try my best on my end. But I don't think it's smart to just dismiss what BTC_P2P said and throw it under the 'another gatekeeper' carpet. Because doing so, it might be to our longterm determent.
I hope I'm wrong, but I worry I'm not is the best I can end this long comment

Hopefully I'll be able to salvage some of it.
Until then I am simply renting AlbyHub Cloud, but I had to add a new Lightning wallet, set up new Lightning channel...
If you need to set it up, just start with something simple like Umbrel - you'll have a selection of prepared Dockerised Umbrel 'apps' at your disposal for an easy install. They have a whole Bitcoin category in which there's like 15 apps ready to be installed with pretty much a click of a button. That's actually how I had it set on my last computer (the one that then died).
All you need is like 1.6TB of space and the same amount someplace else as a backup. I didn't have the backup functionality enabled because I didn't have enough free space on my backup computer - and now I'll have work to get it all back. Otherwise.. it would be a click of a button.

i remember having that exact conversation first year of nostr. At that point it was my 4th platform and the second i felt optimistic about. And I got immediately pessimistic about the future if we get big. But the truth is we cant stop this, so we have to find solutions within our space. I think that is the only realisitc way onward. We can share the tech with retards but then maybe adopt separate spaces within it in some way. it would align with the decentralised model philosophicaly. Personaly im experimenting with some kind of mixture with groups that are localised around a single point, while also keeping the tech layer below it. Its just an experiment and will probably fail but I'll at least try to solve it for a small amount of people i care about. Also..incentives, incentives, incentives. I think this is whats missing. its too cheap to be stupid and a spammer and a shill. it should 'cost' and thus make people think before they start the bullshit. Incentives are key imho, question is.. which ones exacly and how to do it best. Innovation just might bring us closer though. Wisp is proof it can get much better

yeah.. but we also lost a bunch of really great people over the last year or two. I think that adds to the reason why the retard to person ratio is so bad now

I've come to believe its pathological. It started with the waves of pumped up group hysteria that got everyone into frenzy repeatedly . Then it turned out that some started profiting by it and LARPing stuggle became a way of life for some. They've come to believe it is a moraly superiour position and of course they place themseves on that higher place as a result. Its ego driven bullshitting repeated so often people started identifying their character with that LARP. They lost themselves in the delusion. Problem is you won't be able to tell them that because even criticising it makes you a moraly inferiour person automaticaly and therefore not worth listening to.
I've come to the conclusion that the only way out is an actual self examination, deep deeeeeeep down into the soul. They have to start asking unpleasent questions of themseves like "Why do I actually belive this? On what foundation this my belief actually sits?" These are horrible qiestions because answers are difficult to admit. Andnthe answer more of then not is the worst one: I dont actually know why. I just 'feel' like this is good and this is bad because my friends behave and believe the same.
As soon as this happens, the actual possibility for an actual awakening from this delusion is opened. One still has to choose to go through it though, but at least its offered at that point. Problem is most dont even get to that door because admiting youve just been copying feelings of 'good' and 'bad' from people around is painful af. Painful to the ego because it turns out you were not smart, you were just an actor without even knowing you've been acting.

both things are essentially the same and morally corrupting. To prove that we just have to look at every attempt of the government solving thebproblem by throwing money at it and making it far worse as a result. Humans run on incentives. If incentives are morally curropting as is the idea of getting something from nothing (aka stealing it from somebody else) you get murraly currupt humans out of it. Example? Solving homeless problem in California for tje last 15 years.15 uears agi it started with a problem
'solution' was to throw money at it. Result: homelessness increased exponentially

wait what? But miners in fixed supply (Bitcoin miners) do have muuuuch higher profit than miners in Monero precicely because ther is a cap at 21 mil. Arent you making my argument and not the other way around?

i get that. Also sorry to hear about you father. I lost.mine last year through horrible illnesses as well. I am still completely shaken and have been puting my life in order ever since.
You were smart at acting and that's great, but I doubt you went about it through making declarations. You probably learned how to avoid some stuff and not go into process blindly. At least thats my guess. And also my point about actual practical results. You probably didnt blindly signs stuff just because you were told this isbhow it's usually done, they instead made some kind of future abstract declarations about what they wanna do in the presence of 3rd party - the state. The more I think about it thr more it looks to me like making some kind of parental agreement at the notary office and nothing else, except big words make us feel like its something original or big or a real system hack. Instead you were the real system hacker and they were but vloggers dressed in fake importance. I wouldn't be so bothered about it if I didn't see this as a trend of how we learned to 'do' things in the last decade or so. everywhere i look i see similar empty results dressed in big words, dressed as 'help' or altruism and 'true caring' of some kind. Yet as soon as i start thinking what actually happened i get disappointed almost every single time. Its like we've become a culture of LARPers who pretend to be special yet in reality we've just doing rhings of no real value. Compare that to what you've done: you actually went about it and solved the problem best you could - directly. Your actions mattered for real! Maybe it should be you who should make a video and teach people of what youve done based on real results you had. Dammit... now I'm just pissed youre not famous for it :)

can someone explain the rational for Monero not having fixed amount of supply? I mean, I can't understand this decision.. It would be a perfect money if it had it imho, but this single feature makes it so hard to stack it longterm compared to BTC. I am not trying to be silly here, I'm seriously asking for the rational behind it

I think i get the theory. Or even the sentiment behind it.
I just don't understand what it would actually mean for a child in practice. That's where i have difficulties understanding the why of all this procedure

An interesting statistics:
For every Jew in the world, there's 130 Muslims.
Theres about 70 million jews on earth. And almost 2 billion muslims.
So it's 1 to 130.
And
According to a 2025 Pew Research Center study, Islam is currently the fastest-growing major religion, with the global Muslim population having increased by 347 million people between 2010 and 2020 — more than all other religions combined — driven primarily by high birth rates.
So in effect in the last decade alone theres like 5 times more muslims born than all Jews living on earth combined.
Now keeping all these numbers in mind lets look at Nobel prices for STEM achievement. Clearly there should be 130 times more muslim STEM achievements if the interest in stem was on the same level.
And here statistics is also quite shocking:
From 700 Nobel awards in Science,
those 70 million currently existing Jews got 200 Science Nobels.Which is about 25 percent of all Science Nobels.
And those 2 billion existing muslims got...
3.
Interesting statistics isn't it.
A bit surprising one isnt it?
And it also explains the envy and hatred so many people have for Jews nowadays.
Its quite difficult to be an Einstein (Jew of course). Its much easer to hate him.
And from 2 billion Muslims
and
Makes one wonder about the jew hatred psyop running around these days.

so if i understand you correctly that would just mean that social services can't ever take their child should something sinister happen (either on the side of parents or on the side of some nefarious actor trying to make trouble for the parents for some reason)? Like im the case of those people on twitch who were 'informing' aka lying to child social services about a couple that they hated and the cpuple had to deal woth police and child services as a result? In this case the couldn't come?
I mean, is that the point or am i missing some other practical result of this?

my obvious question is: what any of that means in practice? Does it for example mean that the child has to pay taxes or not? Is the child eligable for social services or not? And if that makes a child basically of the same status as an illegal migrant

I hope I didn't sound too critical, because I do appreciate very much what you're trying to do here. If you ask me, it would help a lot if you limit yourself on chosen subject within the episode as much as possible and then run within it. Like writing on paper the points that allow you stay within the area so to speak and have them visible during the conversion so everyone is automatically constantly reminded to limit the focus on subject at hand. But please don't get me wrong. I fully understand that it is not easy to talk about complicated subject. You will no doubt get better in speaking to the wide range of people as you go on so please just continue and know we get it and appreciate the trouble of suddenly just speaking to a mic and explaining stuff while not seeing the people you're speaking to. Not an easy task... Good luck and I am sharing your podcast across my small reach

I am sorry guys but you have to script this a little because your explaining things very confusingly, jumping from one thing to another randomly and so on. The subject is difficult enough. Please also add literature needed for people to follow
