They are right-wing "free speech" / 4chan chuds, that tollerated until very recently an even worse dev that is trolling a lot as a TERF, currently works for Truth Social (Trump's MAGA cesspit) and also made the Rebased fork after being finally kicked out.
The codebase is also a mess full of half-baked ideas. A few years ago the more reasonable people forked off Pleroma into Akkoma and spend significant time cleaning up the codebase.

No thanks.
We don't want to build the setup for fascists to take over like in the US.

The wiki for the FP5 referrs to the stable branch afaik. Audio and calls are basically working, but as I said, the devil is in the details, like audio routing for calls and such. I wouldn't be overly surprised if similar issues apply to the FP6 port.

I have a "close to viable on PmOS" Fairphone5 for 3 years now... sadly the devil is in the detail.

If you use it as a server, definitely take out the GPU first. It will just waste electricity.
But yeah, I have two similar machines that due to the high power use are not in use, but if I had nothing else I guess it would have to do somehow.

Are you using a shady VPN or so? It is very unlikely that lemmy.ml defaults to difficulty 6 for all visitors. There is likely something that makes your connection look shady so that you get pre-sorted to the bad pile.

The old A/V chats in Matrix were just Jitsi-meet in disguise, but this has been largely deprechiated now with Element Calls.

They just released a big new version.
We have been running it since a year or so, but lately there seem to be some scrapers that get around it, probably by using a 3rd party webfrontend and thus accessing the API endpoint. But still better than nothing I guess.

Not sure if that is still in their FAQ, but the Stoat devs previously said that they don't want federation, and if that every changes they would likely prefer XMPP over Matrix.

I wonder who made the legal threats. I suspect it was Element (Matrix), as they are the only ones with a possible to confuse trademark in the same business sector ("Riot" the old name of their webclient).

Hmm, afaik other than some generated small thumbnails no remotely sourced images are stored on your server when you turn off the proxy. At least in theory, but the entire Pictrs integration in Lemmy is such a mess with random unexpected behavior that at this point I am hesitant to claim that no remote images ever get stored (there seem to be alternative code paths for specific image hosts like Imgur and crap like that).

I am not sure OP is asking about hosting a Lemmy instance though. They mention non-Lemmy fediverse software.
However I think you misunderstood how proxying works:
> Note that this has been drastically reduced with the image proxying, where if someone on say, .world posts CSAM it’s proxied through my server but not hosted by my server. So, liability is still a thing, but as long as the admins of .world take action then i’m protected with them. If proxying is disabled then the CSAM would live on my server too - and that means I’m legally required to report it.
It is actually pretty much the oposite of what you describe. The image proxy in Lemmy is a user privacy feature, but it comes with the downside that the server does indeed download and temporarily stores all media that are requested through it.

Small comment on the licensing... CC-by-NC-SA is not FOSS and also not very helpful for server run software like this, as people do not need to share modifications they only run on their own server. I would suggest you switch to the AGPL instead, which was specifically developed for server run software.

Except for one addition route in the reverse-proxy (which might not be needed anymore in newer versions) it is really only changing the port that points to Lemmy-ui to point to Anubis instead.

This is a bit of a misconception of what Anubis does. It uses PoW to enforce a full browser environment, but the PoW is only used once a week or so (or when there is some suspicious things detected). The PoW is then used to autogenerate a kind of password to store in the browser cookies, and to generate this "password" you can't use the simple servers that are used at scale to scrape (practically ddos) the open internet right now.
The main problem is with complex websites like git forges that these AI scrapers hit all the computational expensive deep endpoints and practically force them to shut down from overloading the CPU.
Since I was forced to implement Anubis for my Forgejo instance I also experimented with it on Lemmy. Right now the results show that while Lemmy isn't as badly effected by this AI scraping, there is still quite a bit of it happening. After adding Anubis the overall traffic went down by about a third on our instance, and it prevents the regular traffic spikes we previously saw and had no real explanation for.
But we also ran in some strange issues with it. Most likely it is caused by Anubis detecting mobile connections with switching IP addresses as possible scrapers (who are known to first access pages from a more complete server to get cookies and so on and then switch to a cheaper server on a different IP to do the actual scraping). But we are still figuring out how to replicate those issues, and they might have been fixed in the latest Anubis update we applied yesterday.

Hmm, has been a while since I last tried PCSX2, but isn't there a module for it in Retroarch these days? Usually that works better.
