"In past years, I granted limited-term physical CD licenses to European labels, including #Jazzwerkstatt in Germany (for projects like For The Love of Ornette, Rendezvous Suite with David Murray and Coltrane Configurations). #YpsiTownship's data center fight is unique in that its board of local leaders are united with the community in opposition to the project. Board members have repeatedly spoken about the University of #Michigan's lack of respect and lack of communication. In April, the Board voted to institute a 365-day moratorium on delivering water to #DataCenters. The University threatened legal action in response and called the move “discriminatory.” #Ypsi #Ypsilanti #Tech #AI

@nprofile…nekg Heebie jeebies for real! I used to donate via ActBlue with a unique email addy. That addy was shared with 100s of campaigns and I got a tidal wave of spam. Also bought some stuff from #AbdulElSayed’s webstore, also using a unique email addy. So far it hasn’t been shared :-)

Years before #Mastodon, I signed up for #Diaspora, a decentralized #SocialMedia platform with a Facebook-style interface. And I liked it! It was never as lively as Masty but it was fun and friendly and I met some cool people over there. I don't know why it seems to be fizzling out but I suppose fifteen years is a good run. All things must pass, eh? Many thanks to all who contributed. Ever onwards! https://diasp.org/posts/24653225

I haven't read the whole thing so not sure if I agree or disagree but it seems like the sort of thing that might interest us #Fediverse folks so sharing: 'Free software does not mean “free” as in a lack of price, but in the sense of liberty—as Stallman says, “think free as in free speech, not free beer.”' #Technology #Computing #OpenSource #FreeSoftware #Capitalism #Socialism #Marxism #Economics #SocialistForum #DemocraticSocialistsOfAmerica #DSA https://socialistforum.dsausa.org/issues/fall-2024/on-the-commodity-fetish-of-computation/

@nprofile…5e8y I saw it in the theater at the time, don't remember much about it but the soundtrack is pretty good, I found it in the cutout bin for maybe $2. Numan's "Down in the Park" and XTC's "Take This Town" got lots of spins!

@nprofile…7a7p Got me an original copy! A $1.50 investment when I was 13 years old, now selling for over $200 on some auction sites. I'm keeping mine ;-)

@nprofile…jpfa Good for them, but I’m not really interested in celebrities. I’m interested in community. IMHO the Fediverse excels at community. :mastodon: 👍️ 😁

@npub17nv…96rn IMHO Podcasts are best for conversations and music (like radio, eh?). It's pretty rare that a single person speaking can hold my interest.

It's true: visiting (or living in) a nation where politics is rarely discussed can be refreshing. Just keep in mind that the reason it's rarely discussed is often because expressing the wrong opinion can land you in jail. Or worse. #Thailand #SEAsia #Asia #Politics #ThaiPol #AsiaPol https://www.businessinsider.com/expat-bangkok-thailand-better-life-low-cost-living-culture-home-2024-5
