I’ve said this for a while about Monero and Grin. Privacy transactions is just inherently part of a monetary system. It’s not “private money”, it’s just “money”.

Ditto might use AI for their UI. But I’m saying they shouldn’t. And no one should. Just have AI make you a great SDK so you can build a UI in “dream code”.

2026-10-17 17:21:28 UTC

This is the way to use AI. Let it handle everything under the hood. Have it make a beautiful SDK. Then *write the entire UI by hand*.
Don’t let a user *see* anything written by AI. Best of both worlds.

I like Monero and use it, but in order to remain ASIC-resistant, you basically need a centralized dev team so they can move fast.
Grin intentionally opted to not bother with ASIC-resistance and that might have been the right move.

Tlon (urbit) released an update to their app that makes it 90% focus on talking to your agent. Urbit is now completely irrelevant.
They never even fully leaned into the human social aspect. That’s the sad part. I would rather have used it as a private and safe social network for close friends and family, but they never let you post anything.
I try not to judge too harshly. For all we know, some of the Tlon leadership got sick or something. But I gave advice around this and friendly chastisement several times. Whatever.

Do you like REBOL @npub180c…h6w6 ?

2026-09-14 16:15:56 UTC

Nostr is the REBOL / Red-lang of decentralized networks.
They both prefer a bunch of built-in types (“kinds”). Interesting philosophical choice.
Where most languages have:
"bob@example.com"
"2026-09-14"
"$25.00"
"192.168.1.1"
"foo.txt"
Red-lang and REBOL have:
bob@example.com ; email!
https://example.com ; url!
14-Sep-2026 ; date!
$25.00 ; money!
192.168.1.1 ; tuple!
%foo.txt ; file!

This is too verbose and not as helpful as you think it is. In my experience, AI cannot write good onboarding copy, for hardly anything really. It just doesn’t understand the perspective of real users and what they will connect with.

I love the progress @npub16ye…g4wn ! Can’t wait for iOS. I currently use delta chat, so I have some thoughts around that comparison.
Vector has username mention notifications and chat groups with permissions like admin/mod right? Big improvement on delta chat if so!
On DC, all accounts are basically unfindable if you don’t have the exact link for it. Great for family use cases especially. Is there a way to do this with Vector?
Any thoughts on making the style/design of the app a bit more neutral? The gamer/hacker aesthetic is very alienating to a large userbase. Maybe just go more neutral or tone it down?

No, you break your key into a bunch of pieces and hand those pieces to trusted friends. When you need to recover your account, you request those pieces back. When you get a majority back, you get the key back.

Maybe the key to being less Online is to develop systems in which identities are more disposable. The more static the identity, the more obsessed people are with how it looks. When it becomes too rigid, it creates a kind of shadow.
Maybe IRC users don’t need pubkeys after all.

Nostr fixes the identity situation very simply, but the signed and gossiped messages are working against the ephemeral live concept.

Also, the app developer should be the one that owns the lexicon functionality. AtProto has that right. They are the ones that want to use the lexicon. So let them support it for their users.
Meanwhile, the expectation of NIP functionality is forced onto relays. Insane because Nostr relays were supposed to be dumb.

2026-07-27 18:00:27 UTC

- reply

It’s very different from NIPs.
For one, lexicons have no pretense that there is or will be interoperability. They assume that there isn’t, in fact. But lexicons do assume that at least one developer is using them (it’s under their namespace).
NIPs are the opposite. They assume interoperability, but in reality zero apps are using them.
There is only hell if we impose it upon ourselves. Basically, it’s all about expectations and ownership. Nostr does both terribly.
