@nprofile…w4ds @nprofile…er3l přesně. Ten řidič zdravotník musel vidět, že v pruhu rovně mu zastavili. Turek se vyřítil zpoza rohu do místa, kde tam neměl co dělat. Jezdí ten vůl se sluchátky v uších a těch černých brýlích? Fakt ani nezpomalil. Ještě k tomu ho sejmul zezadu, takže je nad slunce jasné, kdo tam měl brzdit.

@nprofile…n7x6 it seems wrong to me, that the pesign tool doesn't print certificate serial or fingerprint. Only common name display doesn't seem enough for checking certificates. But thank you for new commands to try.

Ale DNS over TLS má problém stejný a pokud vím to nemá řešení. Máš úplnou pravdu, mít zařízení týden vypnuté není žádná rarita. Stačí jet na dovolenou. Po té době už nemůžeš využít refresh seč stále platným certifikátem. Pravda, na RTC přesnost to klade o dost vyšší nároky.

2026-01-16 19:47:01 UTC

@nprofile…vv83 I think you presented #fingerprint reader support in Fedora few years ago. How difficult would it be to have alternative PIN combination with fingerprint? I would like successful f.p. scan to change password box to pin input. But pin could be something 4-6 letters. Instead of letting me in right away, require me to type a lot shorter password. Sort of PIN windows has for local logins too. How difficult might it be? Are there known blockers? #PAM modules architecture maybe?

2026-01-16 19:29:46 UTC

I have expected SO_PEERCRED getsockopt to be portable on AF_UNIX. It is #Linux specific. #FreeBSD has something very similar, but slightly different. Incompatible. Would anyone know any shared library for obtaining remote client information on any supported platform?

@nprofile…l8gu okay. Vulnerability publication on 2025-12-21 has very bad timing. I saw no indication whether or not they contacted other PGP implementations, ie. sequoiah too. And when. This seems well deserved shaming on #gnupg, but I fail to see why that means #OpenPGP in general is beyond repair.

@nprofile…l8gu @nprofile…lara okay, from link https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2025/12/28/2 I assume this was indeed published only directly at the conference, without announce to oss-security or better to embargoed distros list. Please avoid publication of vulnerabilities this way, especially this time. If there is something to improve, this is definitely it.

@nprofile…l8gu @nprofile…lara is there a date times, when those issues were reported to gnupg *and* sequoiah? Did they have embargoed time long enough before publishing? Why are we discussing them now after Christmas?
I value your contributions, but until you realize email is the most used messaging system on this planet and cannot be skipped only, your contributions won't have impact you are trying to archieve.

@nprofile…l8gu most of these issues are in gnupg. Rpm in Fedora is switching to sequoiah. How many of these issues are in that code too and how they can be fixed? Were they reported to sequoiah before the Christmas with enough time to fix them? RH crypto team is on holidays now, just as majority of EU or US developers. They would certainly thank you for publishing important CVEs during this time. I hope I just didn't get it right. I expect some reaction after the New Year.

@nprofile…l8gu @nprofile…yuel I am software engineer working on RHEL. What you demand is never going to work. Marking old and insecure features obsolete and disabled by default is a way to go. It takes a lot of time. But any serious improvement cannot be done by re-inventing the wheel. It might be too slow in your opinion. But industry works that way for a good reason. Dnsflagday.org might be example how to move it forward.

2025-12-30 13:52:48 UTC

@nprofile…l8gu I would argue PHP is not the most trusted language for cryptography sensitive tasks. Not everyone has fediverse identity. Solving all problems with fresh new code usually doesn't work so well. I would focus on improving what we have by evolution, not revolution.

2025-12-30 13:45:39 UTC

@nprofile…l8gu wouldn't it be enough to propose RFC for secure email handling by email clients? Creating completely new protocol might hit problems solved already in existing protocols. Or sharing the same problems the old ones failed to solve well enough. For example user friendly, decentralized key distribution has no great solution, if it should be secure at the same time?

U RPM to notoricky nastává s changelogem.

@nprofile…alyz @nprofile…vdjy @nprofile…7gap I agree. Compared to other well-reasoned and explained problems in original PGP article, this is just very shallow and often bogus or misleading. The biggest problem of DNSSEC are broken middle boxes IMO, which with rise of DoT will become less and less significant. And of course requires correct deployment and maintenance, which requires extra knowledge and resources.

2024-11-16 22:48:54 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…vdjy @nprofile…7gap Sure, nobody forces you. Though Merkle trees complicates whole design a lot IMO, DNSSEC allows much simpler verification from a single trusted root key. More straightforward design, just top-to bottom verifiable chain. But our crypto team has similar relationship of DNSSEC as you do.

2024-11-16 22:31:27 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…vdjy @nprofile…7gap But it would not hurt having the possibility to use it for it, right? Because unlike certificate revocations, short lived DNS caching scales better with higher usage, IMO?

2024-11-16 22:25:25 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…vdjy @nprofile…7gap How does the Fedi server authenticate itself? Can we perhaps use DNSSEC for that too? I admit github.com and gitlab.com could already identify myself with my SSH keys identities and attest for others, these are my keys.

2024-11-16 22:07:45 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…7gap @nprofile…vdjy Hmm, perhaps we could map SSH keys identity to people very similar way as OPENPGPKEY record in #DANE, but with #SSHFP instead. We could reuse the algorithm for owner name creation, just use different record. But does not match how I use my SSH keys. I have each per machine, not one per person. I think I do them how I should, right?
