““They’re sucking the soul out of the agencies and they’re doing it on purpose,” said Tim Whitehouse, executive director of Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility, a nonprofit that provides legal services to public employees. Admin workers newly reorg to Burgum’s office “have no clear managemt structure,” he said. “They often have no clear lines of authority. This is effort by Sec Burgum—buck stops with him—to deconstruct his agency by creating chaos “

“I’m not sure what gave him the indication that at this point in time, what’s happening to my state, that I’m interested in Venezuela. But he told me how well that went,” Waltz said, adding that the remark was “strange.”
“He saw an operation in Venezuela against a foreign nation in the same context he saw an operation against a U.S. state, a U.S. city.” https://newrepublic.com/post/205856/tim-walz-donald-trump-phone-call?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=the_ticker_rss

“There is no basis in law for a president to set up an offshore account that he controls so that he can sell assets seized by American military,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, told Semafor. “That is precisely a move that a corrupt politician would be attracted to.”

Food benefits ending for millions in US. Christian Sci Monitor-Experts say rural Americans, many in areas that voted for Trump, will be hit hardest first. In a guest essay publ Tues in NY Times, Sen. Josh Hawley of MO, a Republican, called on Congress to pass his bill that would keep SNAP benefits flowing during the shutdown. He called their expected cutoff on Saturday a “grim milestone.” In previous administrations, SNAP had always been seen as a bipartisan priority. https://apple.news/A1Mtf-qhZQVq637R3OkRWGA

“If I had sent in the National Guard into Texas and just said, ‘You know what, lot of problems in Dallas, lot of crime there, and I don’t care what Gov. [Greg] Abbott says, I’m gonna kind of take over law enforcement because I think things are out of control.’ It is mind-boggling to me how Fox News would have responded,” Obama said. https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2025/10/13/2348357/-Obama-slams-Trump-for-deploying-troops-in-Chicago

Of the court's 7-2 decision by Justice Kavanaugh, giving gas producers right to sue Calif over limits on emission-producing cars, Jackson said her colleagues favoring fuel industry over "less powerful plaintiffs."
"This case gives fodder to unfortunate perception that moneyed interests enjoy easier road to relief in this Court than ord citizens," she wrote.. https://apple.news/AlsTry8nSTXaOG_cthyFWfQ

The white minority in South Africa still enjoys a considerably more stable economic situation that the black majority following decades of apartheid rule. Despite being 7.3% of the population, white South Africans have 20 times more wealth. The unemployment for whites in South Africa is near 10%, while black unemployment is 46%. Whites own two-thirds of the farmland in South Africa. White poverty sits at just 1%. https://meidasnews.com/news/trump-faces-intense-backlash-for-accepting-white-south-african-refugees

He has damaged America’s standing in world, esp through his chaotic tariffs. He has made it easier for China and Russia to spy on the United States. He has sowed doubt about the dollar and the Federal Reserve’s independence. He has set back critical research on medical treatments. In each of these areas, he has acted in defiance of public opinion.

“But when we went to more recent years, things got foggier.”
So foggy, in fact, that he forgot Mr. Setoodeh himself. After interviewing Mr. Trump in May 2021, Mr. Setoodeh returned in August. “When I said, ‘Do you remember sitting down with me?’ he said, ‘No, that was a long time ago,’” Mr. Setoodeh said. “It was like we started from square one. He started telling me the exact same stories. He didn’t remember what we had talked about. He didn’t remember me.” https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/06/us/politics/trump-speeches-age-cognitive-decline.html

Members of the Alsobrooks camp are having none of it. They contend Mr. Hogan cannot be trusted, pointing to his veto in 2022 of a bill making it legal for trained professionals other than doctors to perform abortions. (The governor cited safety concerns.) When the State Legislature overrode the veto, he then refused to release the funding set aside for training new providers. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/24/opinion/larry-hogan-angela-alsobrooks-maryland-senate.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare&sgrp=c-cb&ngrp=mnp&pvid=C739078A-7A05-42E5-98B0-029819AB1732
