Good news, everyone! After extensive investigation, we've finally figured out why old videos no longer play.
First, the good part: your videos are not lost! They're sitting in a massive 10.2 TB bucket of object storage that keeps growing exponentially because some of you stream 5-hour-long videos every day...

We're currently investigating an ongoing issue with older videos on our instance that no longer play properly. We think we know the cause and a possible fix, but we need to basically fix affected videos one by one.
We apologize for this experience, and will try our best to work quickly. If you have missing #PwerTube videos on Spectra, let us know!

Spectra currently stores 7.5 TB of videos. As our costs continue to rise, we need to make a serious decision about the long-term viability of our platform and operations.
One thing we are thinking seriously about is defaulting to a set per-account upload limit, with the ability to pay for additional storage as needed. It's not a great situation, but we've found that a very tiny portion of our userbase tends to use up the most space.
We need to figure out something soon, as our costs and operational requirements are skyrocketing. We are currently paying hundreds and hundreds of dollars every month just to keep our #PeerTube instance going.

@nprofile…3eqn @nprofile…gc2n Hey sorry, we're working on this the best we can. It's a really annoying situation, and will probably lead to some small changes in the future to avoid it happening again.

We're working on integrating some things together in our service infrastructure, to make it easier for us to detect service issues and automate service messages when problems happen.
As a bonus, this account is now bridged to ATproto!
