I like Tom a lot, but when my grad student sent me that bit about child mortality I had a lot to say about it.

If we are talking about millions of babys in NICUs getting millions of dollars a piece in the most up to date medicine, this is obviously unsustainable, but if we are talking about purposefully not teaching people about the germ theory of disease and how to purify or boil water so that more humans will die and population goes down, then we are off the deep end.
