This morning I had a fun chat with a 28 year old woman from Senegal (where I spent 3 years in the Peace Corps). First we spoke in English and later switched to French. After her first year at a university in Dakar, she won a scholarship to continue her studies in France. She now has two bachelor's degrees (the first in economics, the second in big data and machine learning), a master's, and then won a special scholarship from a major French bank which is employing her to work on risk assessment while she completes her Ph.D.
I asked her if she enjoyed studying and doing research and learning and she gave me a HUGE smile. There is so much talent and brain power in the world. Trump may think he's clever to bar the gates and "protect" us from all the scary foreigners. He's an idiot and our loss will be other countries' gain.
