Appearing as a guest on Peter Diamandis’s Moonshots podcast, billionaire investor Chamath Palihapitiya—a former staunch advocate of Bitcoin—believes that advances in artificial intelligence and quantum computing could eventually compromise Bitcoin’s cryptographic protections.

In particular, he envisions a scenario in which hackers would manage to steal the BTC allocated to Satoshi Nakamoto, before betting on a price collapse to rake in a second fortune.

But in his view, the problem isn’t solely technological. The investor believes the Bitcoin community is too divided to successfully adopt quantum-resistant security measures quickly enough.

He also reveals that he no longer holds BTC directly, having exchanged his previous exposure for shares in Digital Currency Group.
