"content": "This is cool - the prolonged dry weather has revealed the outline of ‘The Great Parterre’ beneath the South Lawn at #Chatsworth. It was a #garden created for the 1st Duke of Devonshire around 1699 and it disappeared beneath a new landscape in the 1730s. The hot, dry conditions created contrast between the shallower-rooted turf and the original garden layout, and have allowed its spectacular swirling patterns to re-emerge.\n\nPhoto downloaded from Chatsworth's social media.\n\n#history #archaeology\nhttps://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/116/981/019/583/463/954/original/cea0ead9a63e9127.jpeg\n",
