Luxembourg is enhancing its anti-fraud measures by integrating cryptocurrency exchanges into its Financial Intelligence Unit's (FIU) early warning system. As of August 8th, a new law, Bill No. 8722, empowers the FIU to issue cross-agency fraud alerts to domestic crypto exchanges, banks, and payment institutions. This initiative aims to facilitate the freezing of suspicious accounts and associated funds. The legislation was prompted by a significant fraud incident in 2024 where the charity Caritas lost over $70 million. That same year, Luxembourg police recorded 6,382 fraud cases, with financial institutions reporting a 32% year-over-year increase in fraud reports, exceeding 18,000.
